Malpique heated pool & Jacuzzi Guest House — Hotel in Albufeira

BEWARE! ‼️ My boyfriend and i had an incredibly distressing and disappointing experience staying here. The room itself had serious issues, including visible black mold, musty and already wet towels upon arrival, and overall poor hygiene both in the room and in the shared spaces (ie bugs and buildup of grime). We raised these concerns privately with the host, supported by clear photo evidence, after being encouraged to do so by Airbnb support.

Rather than respond with any level of professionalism or willingness to improve, the host accused us of blackmail and left a retaliatory review on our Airbnb profile filled with false claims. His response was completely uncalled for and incredibly aggressive. Airbnb has been supportive and confirmed the concerns were valid.

We initially said the area was nice and the room had potential (which it does) but that doesn’t erase the fact that the space was not clean or healthy to stay in. We didn’t ask for anything unreasonable, only that the issues be acknowledged and addressed to protect future guests.

Sadly, this was met with hostility and a public smear. Future guests should be aware that if you raise legitimate concerns here, the response may not be constructive, it may be personal.

I WOULD NOT recommend this property until serious changes are made, both to the hygiene standards and how the host handles constructive feedback.

UPDATE after host responded: The host’s reply accusing us of “trying to scam” is not only false, but an attempt to silence us for raising health-related concerns like visible mold and unsanitary conditions, which is CLEARLY documented in the photos attached here, which he continues to blatantly ignore. We followed Airbnb’s own advice to contact the host directly, and their support confirmed our concerns were valid.

What’s even more disappointing is that instead of taking any responsibility or showing interest in improving the property for future guests, the host has still not acknowledged a single issue we raised, not the mold, not the musty towels, not the cleanliness of the space. His focus has been entirely on attacking us personally rather than addressing legitimate concerns that impact guest health and safety.

The host’s retaliation both here and on Airbnb only further proves why we left this review: not for money, but to protect future guests. We hope others don’t experience the same disrespect and hostility we did and continue...

This was my first trip to Portugal and first time my wife had took over the organising as she has been a visitor to albefuria before and boy she did well! She booked us a fantastic 4 days in this superbly fitted out guest house over looking the old town. Our room was on 2nd floor, the view overlooking town was stunning and we had a spa bath on the verandas. The room was spotless, fully air conditioned and really good WiFi. We had our own shower and toilet. Some of the rooms have shared bathroom/shower. The kitchen is shared for everyone. They have some strict guest rules, Adults only, no smokers, no pets, no groups etc but for us as a couple this place was ideal. There is a private swimming pool for the guests to use. On arrival we were greeted by one of the staff who allowed us to store cases as we arrived at 10am and check in was after 1pm. Once we checked in we were given a key for our room that also opens outside door. We stayed 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The staff that were around maintaining and cleaning were really friendly and helpful. There are 97 steps right outside the guest house that take you down to fisherman’s square in centre of old town. At night with patio doors open you could hear entertainment in town but not that it was loud enough to keep you awake. |Would definitely return, loved the accommodation...
