We were pleasantly surprised by a warm welcome and the atmosphere of the place and our seating choice with a very pleasant view to the ocean. Good weather permitting, I would recommend booking a place on the outside small terrace, with covering and a teriffic view. The food despite the good presentation lacked in any unique and mouth watering flavours. Our mixed grill did not have enough chaar on the meat, which gave me the impression the meat instead of being done in tandoori or grill was cooked separately and put on hot sizzler plate. It was embarrassing to have to share one Sikh kebab between the 2 of us. Our lamb and fish curry though acceptable again did not have any memorable taste our flavour.Naan were nice and fluffy and could not be faulted. We had also ordered Kashmiri pilav which traditionally has sweet and savoury taste with almond, pine and cashew nuts and sultanas with pomegranate fruit kernels was missing the pine and cashew nuts and pomegranate and was substituted with lots of peanuts and some dry almonds which were too dry to add any distinction to the dish. It was tasty nevertheless and was good accompaniment to savoury food and to finish off the meal. My partners fried fish, which were expecting to be done in batter and fried in oil was pan fried and soft, which though tender lacked the crispiness and flavours of the traditional Indian fried fish . The host hower was very friendly and willing to engage in lengthy conversation about food and experience of eating out. Definitely a place if you want pleasant environment to entertain or celebrate but food though quite acceptable won't leave a lasting memory.

Best Indian Food restaurant run by a family Having dinner at Indian Palace (kiddie corner to where I am staying- Hotel Porto Mare). It’s on the 2nd floor of a building above Goya Restaurant. It took me a while to find it even with the Google map showing it’s 2 mins from my hotel. They have no sign on the front of the building (restaurant owner told me they were not allowed to put sign on the street), the only way they could display their name is on their awnings but you have to look up to see it. Well, glad I finally found it. The food is worth all my footwork. They gave me a complimentary starter - freshly made poppadoms with many kinds of dips. I had Lamb saag (spinach), Chicken tikka and garlic naan. It was a lot but so yummy that I couldn’t stop eating especially the lamb saag and naan, the chicken was very tender but I couldn’t finish it, had to doggie bag the left over, luckily I have a small kitchen in my hotel room with fridge and microwave, could heat it up the next day for lunch lol

Fantastic Indian food!! Can't recomend it enough, definitely go here if you want to eat well for a night! Starters were samosa, chicken wings and onion baji. They also put down a sampler of different sauces and some crispy bread (papadam). Samosa was great, nicy and crispy outside, perfect blend of peas and spices inside. Chicken wings were good, bit of a wildcard, would recommend to try, especially dipped in their red spicy sauce! Onion baji was the star of the starters, loved it! For dinner we had garlic and chili Naan, chicken ticka masala and karahi paneer. Naan was nice and crispy on the bottom and had very good flavor, contender for best Naan I've had. The masala was good but I feel like they made it "white people spicy" even if we said we could handle it medium haha. Karahi was great as well, dipping the Naan in either dish was perfect! If we go back to Madeira yet again, we will revisit!

Think I know a little bit about 'indian' food restaurants. I have dined on seriously good baltis on stoney lane in Birmingham, feasted in Kashmiri cafés in Bradford, true vegetarian and truly Indian restaurants in Leicester and my home town Curry Houses on the curry mile in Manchester, so I take other people's reviews of asian restaurants with a pinch of salt. I know what I like. And I like the indian palace. First off, large non greasy poppadums with 6 ( yes six !) Items on the pickle tray, all tasty. Good range of standard dishes on the menu, nothing out of the ordinary. I get suspicious of over large menus with lots of dishes I havent heard of before. Couple of things new to me but plenty of old favourites. Next, always judge an indian by the quality of the Naans, these were large, incredibly fluffy and not greasy. top marks ! I had a Kashmiri tikka and my partner a chicken kahari. Both came presented well , delicate flavours with a sauce that matched perfectly. Thoroughly enjoyed it all. Even had deserts of mango kulfi and galub jamon which seemed home made. Had the best pint of lager here all week, and even the coffee to finish off was good. Great indian restaurant, friendly waiters who were attentive but not intrusive. Excellent, and will probably visit again...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Indian Palace, and I can confidently say it's one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve experienced! From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and friendly staff made us feel right at home. Also owner Mr Sajjad was attending and making talks with the clients. Even when he was cooking himself tonight.

The menu offered an impressive variety of dishes, catering to both vegetarian and non-vegetarian preferences. We started with the chicken kebab , which were perfectly prepared and packed with flavorful spices. For the main course, I opted for the butter chicken masala, and it was nothing short of divine! The chicken was tender, and the creamy tomato sauce was rich and aromatic, perfectly paired with garlic naan.

The attention to detail in the presentation of each dish was commendable, and the portion sizes were generous. We also tried the Kaschmir rice, which was a refreshing complement to our meal.

Overall, this restaurant combines authentic flavors with exceptional service. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delightful Indian dining experience in Funchal. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their delectable offerings!

Thank you for...
