Bliss Apartments in Lisbon was a highly disappointing experience, differing significantly from the advertised portrayal. Despite its central location in Bairro Alto, my stay was far from blissful.
Firstly, despite requesting a room on a lower floor due to heavy luggage, I was placed on the highest landing. The building lacks a reliable elevator, making the steep stairs exhausting to navigate. The apartment itself was not well-maintained, with visible dust and outdated, uncomfortable furnishings.
The surrounding area was particularly challenging at night. The narrow alleyways were noisy with groups of teenagers causing disturbances and littering the streets. Additionally, the presence of individuals engaging in questionable activities added to the feeling of insecurity. The area had a pervasive unpleasant odor, making it an uncomfortable stay.
One significant inconvenience occurred when the door code failed to work early in the morning. I had to repeatedly contact the apartment manager to resolve the issue, which was stressful and inconvenient. Furthermore, the building lacks basic amenities like mailboxes, preventing me from receiving mail, such as a postcard sent by a friend.
The apartments also charge a city tax not disclosed on their booking website, which felt misleading. For the price of 160-170 euros per night, I expected a much better experience. Considering this cost, a hotel with housekeeping would offer better value and comfort.
The reviews on booking platforms seem to paint a misleadingly positive picture, often omitting significant downsides. Many positive reviews appear to be from less discerning travelers or those seeking a place to crash after partying. Given the overall poor experience and high cost, I would not recommend staying at...
Read moreHaving booked the so called superior apartment, I was advised that access codes would be supplied by midday on the day of checking in. This did not happen and I had to chase the supposed host. On arrival at the front door , access was not possible as the code provided was incorrect. Once I had finally entered the building up ridiculously steep stairs, access to the apartment was not possible even with the correct code as we later found out that the batteries to the automated lock were flat and needed replacing. Other issues once I had finally entered were filthy rusty shower head, towels so cheap and old, kitchen roll would have been better, uncomfortable bed, tv remote not working also due to faulty batteries, hairs on bathroom wall and faulty latch to bathroom door which had been flagged up on a previous review. Overall it was noisy, uncomfortable, dirty and a total disgrace. However, once out and about Lisbon was a delight and wonderful food and service everywhere. Just do not book these apartments, you have...
Read moreGreat location, but everything else is really rough. You're better off in a hostel room than this. We paid for a 1 bedroom and ended up in a tiny studio. It had a really unsafe patio, a/c can barely cool the very hot room down, lights on the dangerous stairs are not automatic - this was absolutely not as advertised.
The bathroom is awful. The shower leaks all over the floor, has to climb onto the toliets because it's hung so high off the ground, and the sink is not designed to be on the counter its on. Had to ask for more towels. All of them were paper-thin and had holes. No face clothes provided.
There was no coffee, just a maker, and no instructions on what pods to buy. We were given 3 of the tiniest rolls of toliet paper. We ran out and had to go buy our own. We asked for these items to be replaced, and no one responded.
The hosts also refuse to respond in the booking app and only talk through whatsapp. For the amount charged, this was the biggest ripoff I have ever experienced...
