Outstanding location. The hotel is located very centrally located near all the great sites around Lisbon. The hotel is decorated with the beautiful Vista Alegre porcelain. The dining and drinkwear in the rooms, the sheets and robes all give the essence of luxury.
Service has been everything we could ask for and more. In advance of the stay the hotel had helped coordinate anniversary flowers to be placed in our room. They also provided various new years celebratory touches, like champagne.
Unfortunately, we got food poisoning from a renowned Michelin Guide restaurant on our first of a 6-night stay in Lisbon. Tiago, the hotel staff, was professional in helping us with the situation. He patiently, quickly and quietly helped us problem solve with a clean room, water, soda, and more.
Another shout out to Rita and Concalo. They helped coordinate an incredible experience at a local Fado house. They provided us very unique and customized experiences & recommendations to accommodate what our preferences.
Lastly, the hotel breakfast. It has a large assortment of options for everyone. A very nice touch, being able to order your eggs any style. They had a full assortment of meats, cheeses, bread, fruits, just to mention a few. The staff in the breakfast area has also been very kind and friendly and hardworking. They remembered our orders every morning. A particular shout out to Daivis and Carlos. We witnessed a rude hotel guest interact with them. They were both very professional, calm and collected. They handled the situation very peacefully and it didn't go unnoticed.
Overall really great experience. We can't wait...
Read moreMy teenage daughter and I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It's well located and the staff is very nice. The room is stylish and comfortable with decent storage space compared to other European hotels where I've stayed in the past. They recently added a small gym which was nice to have as I like to work out here and there while I'm on vacation. It has a treadmill, a bike-type machine and weights. We used the gym a couple of times. We could walk to a lot of things in under 10-20 minutes but sometimes got lazy and took an uber. It usually was only a 2-5 minute wait for an uber and very reasonably priced. I was told Ubers were way cheaper than taxis. Most of the time, they picked us up right in front of the hotel. I really liked the breakfast a lot. They have lots of healthy things in addition to your traditional pastries, cheese, meats and you could order egg dishes and pancakes, etc. which were included. There's also an elevator so you don't have to haul your bags up a lot of stairs. We had a room on the 3rd floor and while it wasn't the most quiet room, it wasn't super loud either. But there are people wandering around the streets late at night into early morning so if you have a room overlooking the street, which I think may be most of the rooms there, there will be some noise. If you are noise sensitive, ask for a quiet room. There is an inner door that covers the windows to dampen noise. But again, I didn't find it super loud. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends, etc. I thought it was one of the nicer boutique hotels I've stayed in on my European travels...
Read moreMontebelo Vista Alegre Lisboa Chiado Hotel (MVALCH) is a very nice hotel, but if you're used to five star hotels in Europe then MVALCH will feel more like a four star hotel. First the good: great location (walking distance to most things you want to see but your doorstep is not overrun with tourists) and there is a warmth to the staff service that is uncommon. While I appreciated the interaction with each staff member, there are simply too few of them. For example, room service requests --- even simple things like an additional towel --- could take a while. On some days there'd be a single server for breakfast; he was great (a good bartender too!) but one person serving 10+ guests is going to lead to delays. Relatedly, they use a Nespresso machine for any espresso-based coffee, which doesn't measure up to a good barista (instead I got my morning coffee from one of the many nearby "The Coffee" shops). The breakfast selection was also more limited than a good 5 star hotel. I asked for the sheets to be changed daily but this didn't reliably happen. Finally, the hotel building is old but is generally in good condition; my only complaint with the facilities is that the sound isolation isn't great: you'll clearly hear the young tourists coming home at 2am. In summary: if you go in expecting a good four star hotel then you'll be happy, but if you go in expecting a 5 star hotel then MVALCH won't...
