Had a very relaxing stay in a beautiful room and was pampered by friendly and courteous staff but some things could be improved.
What I liked:
• Possibility of early check in and late check out was much appreciated and a nice gesture. Obrigada! I arrived at the airport relaxed and rejuvenated and could get some work done before my early evening return flight. • Very nice staff. Some communication/information issues could be improved. More on that below. I would like to particularly thank the extremely friendly and professional grey-haired gentleman who brought pasteís de nata and a small sample of wine to my room as a gift of the hotel. I was in a slightly upset stage of mind at the time as I couldn't connect to wifi (more on that below) and he managed to not only help me, but also calm me down. • My premium room was beautiful and luxurious with fantastic views. Huge spa bath, walk-in shower, high quality toiletries (with a heavenly scent), fluffy towels, huge bed, Nespresso machine, good teas, desk space. • The spa was nice. A bit on the smaller side but classy. Very nice and helpful staff. Fantastic panorama view from the Finnish sauna, nice refreshments. • The room service (I had oysters, truffle spaghetti and a burger) was absolutely divine. Best meals I had in Portugal. • Fabulous breakfast with choices for all tastes, including healthy offers. Very friendly and attentive staff. • Very interesting (and Instagram-worthy!) hotel architecture.
What I didn't like: • I arrived at the hotel hungry (or rather hangry - I get moody when I'm hungry) and tired and just wanted to eat sth and then take a nap. Imagine my shock when I realized that ordering room service was not a simple matter of looking at a hard copy menu in your room and calling room service. Instead, you had to scan a QR code on your room key holder, type in a PIN and then open an app that not only takes ages to load, but also freezes after every command. Marvelous. There's a hard copy minibar menu in the room. Please also add a menu for the room service! It makes lives for your guests much, much easier. • There is also no hard copy hotel directory in your room. I understand the excuse for this is still Covid which is odd as there aren't really any Covid restrictions in Portugal anymore. I don't mind reading the hotel directory on the TV, however, this becomes a bit of a problem when you cannot turn on the TV because the remote control doesn't work. • Please ensure the hotel directory on the TV is correct and complete. Wifi instructions were wrong. Spa hours & room service weren't on there. Sure, the (very friendly) receptionist mentioned spa hours and wifi instructions but PLEASE have all this info somewhere in the guest room in writing! I am in a different hotel all the time (and was in 4 different hotels in the last 5 days) and will not be able to memorize all the relevant details. Please make it easy for guests to look up relevant info. • The wifi instructions had three different versions and only one of them was correct. Version 1 is in the TV hotel directory, version 2 is in the app, version 3 - the correct one - is what staff tells you (not in writing but verbally so it's on you to memorize). I'm sorry but this is ridiculous and not customer-friendly. It took me forever to find the correct login details. • The guest rooms are rather techy, e.g. curtains can't be opened manually and the TV audio was regulated via a wall device. It would have been nice to be informed about this. Again, I don't want to lose valuable time when trying to make sense of room specifics I should have been told about in advance or at least in an in-room hotel directory. • Interestingly enough, there was no smart TV in the room even though it was so techy. It would have been nice to watch a Netflix favorite and/or listen to my Spotify songs over the fancy TV audio. • The faucets in the shower are impossible to operate...
Read moreA day that should have been special and unforgettable turned into one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in a hotel.
From the very beginning, there was no sense of welcome, no real service, nothing that made me feel like this was a place worthy of us celebrating something meaningful. The “premium room” we were given was far from premium — the carpet looked tired, the windows were dirty, the shower barely worked, and the entire space felt small, soulless, and not made for a couple. Even the colors and atmosphere of the room were depressing, not inspiring.
The restaurant experience was 👎🏻. We sat exposed at a table in the middle, waiting endlessly. Nobody offered us water from the beginning or made an energy welcoming or asking if we are the first time or at least to explain the menu. The service is terrible and slow. The food — while expensive — came late, with small portions, and left me feeling heavy and unwell afterwards. Waiting nearly an hour and a half just to eat is not fine dining, it’s careless service. And when we asked to move tables, instead of treating us as valued guests, the staff dismissed us with some ridiculous excuse about “regulars.” This is not acceptable.
And the pool… Instead of relaxation, it was chaos. Older kids running wild, spraying water everywhere, families ignoring them completely. No sense of atmosphere, no sense of peace. Just noise and mess.
And then the bill. We were promised €239 with a 27% discount, but instead we were charged €546. For what? Half dirty rooms, terrible service, food poisoning, anxiety, and...
Read moreSadly, an expensive gift I bought for someone went missing from my room . The management had no clear answer nor did they help with it; in fact, they tried to blame it on me by asking not once but four times that I might have misplaced it. Then offered me a 10€ deduction on my food bill. An Absolute atrocious insult!! Specially when my gift costed far more than what the room charges were!! Unprofessionalism masked with textbook false hospitality. The manager seemingly bragged about his NLP skills instead of addressing the issue .
Judgemental staff, pretending to not understand English well . Extra charges were applied and when asked they look blank in the face acting unaware of doing so, making you feel like you aren’t wealthy enough to afford the hotel! Their actions are demeaning.
The shower floods the floor, nespresso had water leaking, complimentary room waters were missing and when asked for it, they happily charge you for it.
I have travelled 7 countries in last two months, first time I was made to feel like I didn’t belong in supposed( for the lack of better word) “their rich world” .
Unusually I would brush things off but this clearly was a violation and absurdly hurtful for no apparent reason.
So be prepared to dress in big obvious brands- look expensive, don’t be friendly with the staff cos they will look...
