What an incredible experience! Exceptional elegance defines Fifty Seconds, a gastronomic jewel box of a restaurant perched high above the Tagus River. A relatively short taxi ride from central Lisbon the restaurant is a world apart from the tourist crowds of the historic quarter. For those who appreciate fine dining as a pivotal part of life and travel, this is a truly unique and unmissable destination.
From the moment we entered, we sensed that this would be a defining highlight of our journey through Portugal—and it exceeded all expectations. The 14-course tasting menu was nothing short of a masterpiece, each dish an artful exploration of flavors and textures. It’s difficult to choose favorites from such a remarkable lineup, but several dishes left a particularly lasting impression. The Sea Urchin with a whisper of onion essence was both delicate and profound; the Balfegó Tuna, graced with Oscietra caviar and a touch of wasabi, elevated the concept of refinement; and the Turbot with fennel, Asian citrus spices, and turmeric was a sophisticated harmony of freshness and depth. The liberal use of premium ingredients, including caviar, throughout the menu was a delightful indulgence.
Service was executed with flawless precision, an impeccably choreographed exercise in attention and discretion. The sommelier’s wine selections were a testament to his knowledge and intuition, perfectly complementing the dishes and enhancing each course’s nuances. The celebrated executive chef, Rui Silvestre, relatively new to Fifty Seconds, has infused the menu with boundless creativity and a global perspective, crafting an experience that feels both exclusive and universally inspired. Our conversation with head sommelier during dinner and the sous chef afterward revealed the dedication and passion of this remarkable team.
Fifty Seconds is not merely a restaurant - it’s an experience that melds elegance and innovation; making it a a must-visit for the...
Read moreThis was our second Michelin star restaurant experience in Lisbon, and was overall a very nice dining experience. The restaurant is modern and beautiful and has a spectacular view over the river. Pros: we all chose the tasting menu. The timing of the servings gave us enough time to fully enjoy the flavours, and everything was beautifully prepared. We were the last guests to leave, and the chef very kindly invited us to visit the kitchen and had a small surprise for us, which was very much appreciated. Cons: One of the party guests is pregnant, and even though I communicated the things she could not eat in advance to the restaurant team, our waiter still went through the entire menu list to check what she could eat. I would have expected the team to be better prepared for this. For the dishes where she should could not eat certain ingredients, we thought the kitchen would prepare something different. However the ingredients were simply removed. For a Michelin star restaurant, we were expecting a little more thought for her dishes. Our sommelier also seemed a little inexperienced and had some trouble finding wines to our taste. Therefore for the price point of 50 Seconds, we were expecting slightly better preparation and thought for our dinner experience. Glad we experienced this Michelin star restaurant, however it was not our highlight for fine dining...
Read moreFrom the moment we took the elevator ride to the beautiful restaurant overlooking the lights of Lisbon, through the meal and the final goodbye from the gathered staff; we were cared for and looked after at the highest level my wife and I have experienced.
Our table was serviced at one time or another by 8 staff persons. Each one was knowledgeable in what was being served, how the food was prepared and in what order we should eat the various offerings in each course.
We chose the 11 course tasting menu, there are also 12 and 14 course options. Each course is an appropriate portion, perfect for the taste and what the chef wanted to convey yet not so much food that you were too full to enjoy the desert.
The preparation and presentation each course was outstanding.
Our 11 course meal for two people with a moderate priced bottle of wine totaled about $560 euro. This level of meal and service would have been double the price in a big city in the U S. We definitely felt we received a great deal of value for what we paid.
If you are in Lisbon and want a special night, I would not miss the opportunity to make a reservation and enjoy 50 Seconds (how long it takes the elevator to reach to restaurant). We also booked a room at the attached Myriad Hotel. The Hotel is also a very nice experience. ...
