Pros||The Pension is located in Bairro Alto, which is a great spot and even if it's in the middle of the party space - our room was very quiet - suprise and great! But the sounds from the inside - you can hear everything, so pray for quiet travellers. From the Pension you can reach most of the city center by walking. Beds are comfortable. Breakfast is very basic, but enough for the start of the day. People who are working there are very helpful and kind and nice and they speak English.||||Cons||To be frank, few things spoiled my impression. ||First, the double room was very small, no place to put your clothes out of the luggage when you are two. The distance between the bed and the wall is around 40 cm, just to put a small suitcase. There is a wardrobe, but very small, not enough space for clothes of two people. So, if you are planning to stay for a week, be prepared your clothes have to stay in your suitcase. The room is really tiny. ||Second, the door from the room we could only close by using the key, cause the handle-bar locker didn't work (we reported that to the reception, but no solution given). ||Third, very bad smell in the room, like the basement smell, even if it was a second floor. I understand that the building is old and this is it, but still - not nice to sleep in that. ||Fourth, every time you leave the hostel, you need to leave the key in the reception, which means that after midnight you need to ring the front door downstairs. I understand it's safety reasons and it bothers night staff, but it might be inconvenient. ||Fifth, the bathroom equipment is very used. ||Sixth, you can't hear sounds from the street, but you will definitely hear someone peeing, jawning and no mention more loud sounds we all make. No soundproof...
Read moreI've stayed here a couple of times now. It's not for those looking for power showers and lots of TV channels, but it's excellent value for money. It's true that on my recent visit I was put in a rather battered attic room (e.g. loose tiles, but everything worked. Comfortable bed; clean and tidy. Rooms on the main floor, where I stayed before, are in better shape. Wifi not great but ok for emails. Breakfast not top notch but will fuel you for the day. It's worth noting that the street is noisy because this is partytown central, so go with eyes open (that's maybe what you want!) or...
Read moreI booked the double room (double bed) with private bathroom. The bathroom was slightly small but on the other side, this is right in the centre of Bairro Alto and at a very good affordable price. Also the cleaner was very nice and cleaned the room daily ! The receptionist swere mostly very nice and friendly too.
After 12 AM you have to ring the bell to go in, which is ok, but I am only giving 4 stars, because the receptionist the last night reminded me that I need to checkout tomorrow, just because I went to the room late after a night out. He repeated twice the...
