A Week at A Nossa Casa: Lisbon’s Warmest Table, Reimagined Night After Night” 💯
I spent a week in Lisbon and found myself returning to the same restaurant FIVE nights in a row—not out of habit, but out of deep admiration. Tucked into the soulful streets of Bairro Alto, A Nossa Casa is far more than its name suggests. It isn’t just “Our House.” It’s a place where Lisbon’s culinary spirit is distilled into something profoundly personal and quietly remarkable.
At the heart of it all is Antonio, the owner—a gracious host whose presence is woven into every corner of the experience. He carries himself not like a restaurateur chasing stars, but like a man inviting you into his home with pride and intention. And then there’s Diego, whose hospitality made each return feel like a reunion. Friendly without being formal, attentive without being intrusive, Diego is the kind of presence every great restaurant needs but rarely has.
But what kept me coming back each night wasn’t just the warmth—it was the food. All dishes were amazing!
These were my favorites:
🥘Starters: Inventive, Vibrant, and Thoughtfully Layered
✅Angus Tartare A dish that draws you in with its richness but holds your attention with surprise. The beef is hand-cut and seasoned with chili oil, layered with a soft-cured egg yolk and scattered blueberries. The sweetness of the fruit feels playful but never random—it’s precisely what makes the dish sing. Grilled sourdough adds the perfect finishing crunch.
✅Cured Raw White Fish This dish is a quiet revelation. The fish—impossibly fresh—floats in a passion fruit aguachile that’s bright, acidic, and gently tropical. A touch of wasabi gives it lift, while seaweed piso and ash oil ground it in umami and depth. A masterclass in restraint and contrast.
✅Pumpkin & Sweet Potato Gnocchi Soft pillows of gnocchi bathed in a tangy kefir buttermilk sauce, accompanied by grilled pumpkin and finished with mole verde. Each bite is earthy, comforting, and subtly spiced. The sweet potato chips on top add a light crunch—both playful and perfectly judged.
🥘Main Courses: A Confident, Evolving Conversation
✅Grilled Stone Bass Perfectly grilled with crisp skin and tender flesh, the stone bass is served alongside an oyster and mint sauce that feels refined yet approachable. A fresh apple and fennel salad adds brightness and crunch—a plate that speaks softly but leaves a lasting impression.
✅Octopus Skewers One of the most compelling dishes on the menu. The octopus is charcoal-grilled to tender perfection, glazed with a light teriyaki, and served over creamy rice, punctuated by crisp garlic chips. It’s smoky, savory, layered—an ode to both sea and fire.
✅Beef Cheek Braised until meltingly tender, glazed with a jus that holds deep, soulful flavor. The creamy corn base adds warmth, while the orange offers an unexpected lift. Kale provides just enough bitterness to cut through the richness. It’s balanced and bold—comfort food elevated to art.
🍸Cocktails: Quiet Stars of the Evening Across all five nights, the cocktails consistently impressed. Each was elegantly composed—balanced, nuanced, and aligned with the tone of the meal. Whether citrus-forward, herbal, or smoky, they never overwhelmed the food but instead enhanced the overall experience. Like the dishes themselves, they reflected confidence and restraint.
⭐Final Reflection⭐ There’s no shortage of restaurants in Lisbon offering spectacle—but A Nossa Casa offers something rarer: sincerity. There is no ego here, only generosity. The plating is thoughtful but unpretentious, the flavors bold but refined, and the experience wholly unforgettable. Over five nights, I didn’t just enjoy meals—I witnessed the unfolding of a philosophy.
Antonio, his wife, the cheff, and his team are not merely serving food. They are crafting memory, intimacy, and connection—one dish, one cocktail, one returning guest at a...
Read moreIt’s been almost a year now and I still think back on my experience dining at A Nossa Casa with the biggest smile on my face. I'll admit, this review is quite late - but the fact that I can still remember everything so vividly is just a sign of how much of a positive impact the experience had on me :)
Dining at this restaurant was on the top of my list when it came to things I wanted to do in Lisbon. I was sadly unable to think ahead, and forgot to reserve a table for my family and I. However, we arrived around thirty minutes before they were set to open - and found ourselves unknowingly chatting with one of the owners! She kindly informed us they were fully booked for the day, however, that we should come back right by the time they open and they may be able to give us a table. Spoiler alert: they were.
And I am so happy they were because this was the best dining experience of my life. All of the courses were so beautifully thought out and made - and oh my gosh were they delicious. Also - the warm bread and butter are divine.
Everyone who works here are just the warmest of souls - and you feel like you are temporarily adopted into the family.
It's honestly unfair to the other restaurants I have visited and will visit after A Nossa Casa - because none will ever compare.
I again want to extend my warmest of thank you's and love to the beautiful family and staff behind this restaurant - your hard work and effort are truly treasured and appreciated.
I am so lucky to say I have dined at A Nossa Casa - and I encourage everyone to be able to say...

We were truly lucky to have gotten a spot here when we showed up the evening before and they had no spots for walk ins but fortunately had a slot for 7 pm the subsequent day. Was thoroughly blown away by the food, the drinks, and the service. Was truly a memorable evening for our last night in Portugal.
Would highly recommend the house mojito to start- one of the best I’ve ever had. Truly every dish we ordered was a highlight from even the bread (incredible sourdough with house made babaganoush and beurre noisette) to the bonito to the steak tartare to the cod and finally the pork cheek rice. The bonito may have been my favourite of the night- cured, raw, thick-sliced bonito with incredibly flavourful chili crisps, gelatinized ponzu, and orange- a perfect balance of saltiness, sweetness, and spice. Don’t skip out on the cod either- beautifully cooked and drenched in an incredible leek beurre blanc infused with house fermented tomatoes.
For dessert, would highly recommend the cookie and coffee semifredo although the apple pie was also spectacular.
Incredible service by such welcoming and knowledgeable hosts, wonderful atmosphere which would be perfect for either a casual dinner or a date night. It’s not a place that’s vying for any Michelin stars, and doesn’t have any semblance of pretentiousness but in all honesty could easily stand toe to toe with some of the best restaurants in the world and come out on top. Truly magical- place is a must-go for all who...
