My wife and I travel to Europe at least once a year. I've stayed in Paris, Rome, Florence, and recently, Lisbon. It's just here in Porto that I've encountered the worst hotel service throughout Europe. I lost cash inside a locked safe and credit cards as well. The hotel did not offer any assistance nor any form of customer service. They can't even show me the entry logs to our hotel room; they are likely shielding the culprit. This is simply wrong as you choose to stay in a hotel not just for comfort but also for its security, where you can leave your valuables with confidence that they remain there when you return. In this regard, Hotel da Bolsa is a failure and a fraud. They are more concerned with shielding themselves from any liability, instead of helping us out. They should get out of the service industry.
The rooms are also not impressive, with the lack of basic amenities (e.g., mini-bar fridge, water service, etc.). The only saving grace is its proximity to the iconic locations in the city, and its serviceable buffet breakfast. All in all, I might as well have stayed in a terrible hostel. Avoid this place like the plague to prevent your valuables from being stolen. Would've rated them -5...

Read moreJust back from a week's stay here. First the good points- The location is excellent -in the centre of the historical district, close to the Douro river and the Sao Bento station, making the whole of Porto easy to access. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. We were in room 101 which was a decent size and very clean. The bed was huge and comfortable. There was plenty of hot water in the bathroom with sparkling white towels. Toiletries were provided. The breakfaast room is light and airy, with helpful staff.|The cons -check in at 4 pm is very late if you have an early flight. We arrived at 9,30 am having been awake since 3.30am. Even if we couldn't check in, it would have been nice to be offered a coffee or some form of refreshment. The carpets on our landing were heavily stained and need replacing. Breakfast was the same every day and food was very slow to be topped up. |Suggested improvements -A tea/coffee tray in the room and perhaps a self serve coffee machine in the small lounge downstairs.|All in all a pleasant hotel. Would we stay again-yes if the...
