Terrible Experience - Don't Trust the Good Reviews
If you're thinking about staying at this hotel, just know that your "room view" might be staring at a freaking WALL for your entire stay. I'm so mad I wasted 3 days here. I picked this place because of all the good reviews I saw online. What a joke. I got stuck with a wall view room and it completely ruined my mood for 3 straight days. And when I tried to change rooms? The staff made it even worse with their terrible attitude and straight-up lies. Here's what happened: I asked to change rooms and one staff member checked the system and told me they didn't have anything available that day, but if I came back tomorrow he could switch me. So I went back the next day and guess what? Different staff member says there are NO rooms available. When I said "but your colleague told me yesterday you could change it today," this person goes "oh, he said IF POSSIBLE we could change it." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? That's not what happened at all! The first person literally checked the availability through computer system and said come back today and he'll change my room. Just tell him what time we'll be out so he can switch us. There was no "if possible" about it. Later that evening I found the original staff member who promised me the room change. Now he's claiming he told me to come back "by the end of breakfast time" to get the room changed. I told him straight up - you never mentioned breakfast or timing, you checked the system right in front of me yesterday and said come back today and we'll change it. But he just kept repeating the same lie about breakfast time over and over like a broken record. The hotel condition sucks and the staff communication is absolutely terrible. There were plenty of other hotels around and I'm so angry I chose this one. Save yourself the headache and stay somewhere else.

Read moreMy mother and I stayed in this beautiful hotel in oporto. I can't express how thankful I am for the service and experience Icon Duplo provided. Since the beginning, service was top notch. Francisco, in reception was extremely helpful with our arrival. He helped us with storaging our baggages when we arrived early and called when our room was ready. He answered all our questions and was extremely patient. From beginning to our end of stay, he was always helping us. On our first day, we received some delicious natas and fresh water as our welcoming package. The buffet for breakfast was delicious. Kitchen staff were always working diligently preparing the food and helped server the buffet. They always received us with a good morning and a smile. Breakfast buffet had a variety of food available such as sweet breads, eggs, bacon, fruits, and other delicious options. The location was also amazing. It was close to many delicious restaurants and the river. Cleaning staff were also so helpful. They always left our room nice, clean, and restocked. On March 8th, women's international day, we received a small bag of delicious violet candy on our bed. I absolutely loved this gesture from the hotel. The hotel's asthetic was amazing and was very comfortable and welcoming. Something that my mother loved was the nice scent from the hotel. We loved this scent and wished we could bring it back with us. In all ascpects, Icon Duplo tailors to the travelers needs.I absolutely adore this hotel and cherish the great memories we gained from this establishment. Thank you Icon Duplo and...
Read moreIt took a long time to trawl through the available hotels in Porto, and the reviews, and the deals. We were so lucky to settle on Icon Duplo Ribeira. It's a new hotel and so everything is fresh and luxurious, from the bath towels and sheets to the furnishings. The beds are super comfortable, the rooms are quiet and the superior double room is very spacious.
The beautiful aroma of bergamot greets you on entering and is a lingering touch which will forever remind me of this hotel. The location is perfect. I struggled over being further uptown but the ICON Duplo Ribeira is close to the river (just a short walk downhill), and close to Rua Flores (uphill) and the funicular, the bridge across the Douro, the tram to Foz and more. The river front restaurants are perfect for a port or beer and we had some great meals down there (black risotto with baked octopus) overlooking the spectacular view.
And I haven't even mentioned Isidro and his breakfast which is an absolute highlight. So many choices from shots of fresh juice to cereals, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, bacon, Portuguese specialities such as bacalhau cakes and pork and bread sausage, a delicious sweet cinnamon noodle custard, olives in a tantalizing orange peel accompaniment, fresh cheese, bread, roast, cured meats, fresh fruit, and more...
The staff in general are attentive, gentle and go out of their way to ensure everything is going well.
We were so fortunate to find this hotel. An...
