“Overhyped” and disappointing doesn’t even begin to describe our experience. Don’t be misled by the glowing reviews as we were. The food was underwhelming, made with cheap ingredients and a menu dominated by uninspired combinations of pasta, pizza, bread, spreads, and cheese — none of which impressed in taste or creativity. Notably, no desserts were listed on the menu.
The facilities left much to be desired — the restroom was in a disgusting state. As for the service: rude, entitled, and self-absorbed. We reserved a table in advance by phone (they lack a proper website or online booking system), but they sit you indoors. We reluctantly were given a table outside after our insistence that it was free. Requesting a 19:30 reservation was met with a flat refusal — we were told it had to be at 19:00, no flexibility.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with rude mumbling from the waiter. Only after the manager confirmed our reservation were we reluctantly seated. We then waited an unreasonably long time before anyone took our order — just a meal and a drink each. After we finished our food, the plates were cleared swiftly, but we stayed to finish our drinks and ordered a coffee. At this point, the same person (apparently both manager and waitress) abruptly approached us and lectured us that “this is a restaurant” and we should order food — a statement that displayed both ignorance and a shocking lack of hospitality. Then she blamed us that we misinformed her.
To top it off, she demanded a tip. My husband, who always tips generously, was so appalled he refused — for the first time in years.
Avoid this place. There are far better options in the area that actually respect...
Read moreI wanted to give this place a better review but a couple things are holding me back, the first of which is the fact that after dining outside here for almost 2 hours with my wife, I walked into the establishment for the first time (the entire time dining here I was outside because they seated us right away outside) and was immediately greeted by an aggressive man behind the bar yelling at me “HELLO HELLO BONJOUR BONJOUR HOW CAN I HELP YOU” not in a helpful nice way but in an aggressive “why are you walking into the restaurant?” Type of way. So I just stopped and looked him dead in the eyes and said “im a client who has been dining here outside and Im just looking for the bathroom”… like excuse me for needing to use the restroom while dining at your establishment??? Then he said its downstairs to the right and continued to just stare at me as I walked down the stairs to the bathrooms (maybe just mind your business friend?). Second thing bringing the review down is that I ordered the “secretos” pork and it arrived completely unseasoned and also it was way too big of a portion. The waiter let me order a half portion thinking it would be enough but really a half portion is like 6 giant pieces of pork and its meant for 2 people. Conveniently the waiter didnt tell me that… pluses are that the burrata with parma ham was good and the location of the...
Read moreThis squid ink pasta was mixed with shrimps, squids, dried tomatoes and coriander. Warm and not salty. Super tasty. It’s a common dish in most of the menus we check so it’s a must try I would say. Paired it with a Quinta dos avidagos, a Douro dry red
From this Italian restaurant we also ordered some oven baked potatoes as appetizers which was mixed with bacon, smoked mozzarella and rosemary. It was yummy but I was expecting more mozzarella in it though.
Apart from the Spaghetti Nero we ordered Roasted chicken and a mushroom risotto which all turn out to be good. For desserts I had a Port wine tiramisu which was quite good. All will come in my reel soon 😉
In Porto main thing is to reserve a table. Otherwise you’ll end up walking a lot hungry trying to find a place to eat. There are so many options so check prior and reserve.
Also in Portugal, they charge for the bread on the table. First time I saw it but it was like that in all the places...
