Even before we arrived for our stay at this hotel we received an excellent service. They recommended and booked restaurants for us. When we arrived around noon both our rooms were available and we were allowed access to them, However before we went up we were offered a glass of port and a Pasteis de Nata, which was a lovely touch.||One of the unique aspects of this hotel is that it is in a stationery shop that is still open for business. This is reflected in the artwork and objects throughout the hotel. For instance on the landing on our floor there were some old typewriters displayed.||We had two rooms, each unique in their own way. The rooms are simple, stylish and well thought out. The beds were comfortable. There were sufficient guest sockets available to charge devices. There was adequate space to put away and hang clothes for a long weekend. Our bathroom was small but not too small. The shower was powerful and the cabinet was snug. There are good products in the bathroom. Good towels, robes and slippers were provided. There was a fridge in the room with free water and milk (for coffee/tea making). Each day fresh bottles of water were supplied.||For breakfast there was a good range of foods on offer (including pastel de nata). Coffee was from a Nespresso machine. Breakfast is served in the dining room of their restaurant. ||The staff were always friendly and helpful.||In terms of location, it is very central in a small square with great access to all the main sites. If you like Pastel de Nata, then even more importantly, it is really close to Castro, where the best Pastel de Nata are made. There are always queues outside the store and inside you can even see into the kitchens where the cooks are making the tarts. ||Buskers do have a spot outside the hotel, but they do stop playing relatively early. ||I couldn't more highly recommend this wonderful...
Read moreWe loved our experience at Porto A.S. 1829 hotel last week!! We arrived after an early morning flight and were told our room wasn't ready yet (understandable) but that they could call us as soon as it was and they called by around noon which was so lovely so we could get into our room and relax. The hotel is small, there's not much lobby to speak of. There is a restaurant and bar attached but we didn't try either. There are TONS of other great restaurnats in the square outside the hotel and in the few blocks surrounding the hotel. The location is phenomenal! There are definitely stairs and uphill climbs all around (but that's Porto). It's a short walk to cathedral and many other sites. We did a small "train" tour (open train car on the road) that was lovely to get an understanding of the lay of Porto. The front desk was very helpful with any questions we had. The AC worked very well in the room which was a blessing in the midday heat. We booked a familiar room which was perfect for our group of three adults! It includes a bed on the main floor/entry and a short set of steps up to a loft with another bed! There was AC in both locations. The shower room is a bit small (typical of Europe) and my main complaint is that the shower stall is not completely enclosed, but has a small bit of glass and is open to the bathroom. It was definitely functional but a bit messy. The sink is outside the shower/toilet room. There are slippers and robes included for all guests which was a nice touch. No wardrobe per se. But there was a space to hang a few things. There is also a mini fridge which was very welcome to store waters and fruit. All in all a lovely place to...
