Prova — Restaurant in Porto

First night in Porto and we were recommended this bar to have a first experience with portwine. Atmosphere is super cozy yet modern. Music went fitting to the action outside from roackbilly over blues to soft jazz as the night progressed. It became more crowded around 8pm but never felt to full. In the bar 2 young sommeliers worked, both with good English and good knowledge of what they were talking about. They advised us very well. I started with a refreshing Port Tonic, and then had 2 different red ports. All tasted excellent. Prices are also marvelous. Especially for students. Olives and other small snacks 1-3€ (bigger tapas around 10-12) and wines ranging from 3.50 - 5€ for normal wines and 10-20 for the really old ones. Prova is a perfectly intimate wine tasting spot where Diogo -its sommelier- and his staff will delight you with great suggestions for wines from the region while also pairing them with delicious cheeses that play a perfect symphony in your mouth. Prova has in Diogo an amazing ambassador for the Douro Valley. He's generous with his encyclopedic knowledge and also his time. He was most gracious as well as the staff. Simply amazing! You enter a beautiful scene and feel welcomed from the first moment. Staff is more than happy to help you find the perfect wine that suits you and the moment, even if it’s not on the menu. In our case he knocked it out of the park, every wine he recommended was a perfect follow up of the previous one. Everything, from the wine to olive oils, is sourced with sincere passion and attention and you can tell. The food is of such high quality that it excels in its simplicity.
