Porto by the River 1 — Hotel in Porto

When we arrived, we asked for an early check-in and the host took hours to respond. When he finally responded, he asked us to arrive LATER than the offered check-in time online. It was difficult to organize a time to pick-up the keys and it felt like we were bothering him even though WE were the guests. Secondly, we booked an apartment instead of a hotel for the amenity of a washing machine given we were going to be there a few nights. When we arrived, the last thing he told us was that the washing machine and dishwasher don’t work. He should have warned us prior to arriving, and not advertised an apartment with these amenities (it’s in all the photos). When we asked for the host to help us with a solution he kept telling us which switches in the electrical board to turn on and off to see if it would work. When we would turn it on, the power in the whole house would go out. Every time we tried to connect with him to ask for help (because coincidentally we were in much need of a washing machine on this vacation), he kept asking for us to take videos of the washing machine and to do this and that and whatever else to see if it works. 1- it felt like he was just trying to buy time until we left KNOWING it would never work (evidenced by the fact that he told us to begin with that it didn’t work); and 2- we were supposed to be on VACATION! Not going back and forth to fix an apartment that we don’t own, and are paying to rent and use it’s services. The apartment has a great location, and the inside isn’t too bad, though the bathroom looks better in pictures. Brilliant apartment.. I personally loved my stay here.. The location is great, restaurants,bars & the river and all tourist attractions right on your doorstep.. It's clean with a well equipped kitchen... I missed having a tv to watch with travelling on my own but with the free wifi I watched youtube on my tablet to pass the time... The only problem some people could struggle with is its very noise at night and if you like silence when you sleep you will struggle.. lucky I like to sleep with my headphones in so it didn't effect me.. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone.. Just be mindful of the street...

Escribo esto desde un bar donde han tenido la amabilidad de acogernos. Joao, el dueño de este lugar, nos esperaba a las 15:00h en el apartamento para hacer el check-in. Debido a ciertos retrasos agenos a mi y a mi acompañante, hemos llegado a las 15:10h. (Aún así debo puntualizar que en booking ponía que podíamos llegar de 15:00-15:30h). Al llegar allí, Joao ha empezado a gritarnos por llegar 10 minutos tarde. Aún así, hemos aguantado y hemos dicho que no haríamos caso a sus chillidos, sin embargo João ha empezado a dar golpes por las puertas mientras entrábamos y a chillar todavía más. Le temblaban las manos y se le desencajaba la mandibula, por lo que hemos deducido que no estaba físicamente apto para recibirnos. Asustadas, hemos salido de allí diciéndole que a un huésped no podía tratarlo así, y a mi y a mi compañera de viaje nos ha llamado “lesbianas” y nos ha dicho textualmente “que le comiéramos la p**”. Nos hemos ido de allí corriendo mientras seguían los insultos. Hemos ido a denunciarlo a la policia y estamos hablando con booking para cancelar la reserva y que no nos la cobren. Hemos pasado un gran susto en nuestro primer día en oporto, aún así esperamos que se arregle el viaje los días que nos quedan por delante.
