TLDR: I wouldn’t come back here for the food. My partner and I got food poisoning. For a drink with a view, maybe. Service was nice. View was nice. I tried the bread with olives, oil, and butter, goat cheese, fried cod skin chips, smoked cod dip, cod and potatoes, and Iberian pork on rice, and some wine. Overall most things were too oily and sometimes salty for my taste, and we didn’t feel too well after the meal. The bread wasn’t special, it just seemed like a variety of ok, room temperature, sliced store bought bread with a bowl of olives, a bowl of olive oil, and good butter. The fried fish skin chips were neat, and tasted similar to rice cakes and salty, buttery popcorn. I couldn’t eat more than about one though. The hard goat cheese and jam with grapes and walnuts were fine. The smoked cod dip was alright, and came with grated tomatoes, mashed olives, and thinly sliced, toasted, oiled bread, and pickled cucumber and onion. This was good in small amounts, but I would have withheld oil on the crostini and the grated tomatoes didn’t add much flavor. Also the mayo and oil in the dip became overwhelming after eating a quarter of it. The cod and potatoes were good. Cod was cooked great and potatoes were very soft and flaky. The potatoes were like large layered French fries, and quite oily. The Iberian pork on rice was oily, and the rice was too oily and salty to even eat. The broccolini was nice, but also too oily. There were bits of mayonnaise around the rice that really just added unnecessary oil and salt. The pork was cooked nicely but also on the salty...

We live in Porto and one day, accidentally, visited Bacalhau for lunch. We were lucky to find a table inside, because it is normally full during the weekends and when Porto is busy with tourists. And it was Christmas time! The food was - how can I say it?- inspiring! We got some amazing chips from cod skin with an excellent sauce, smoked cod (OMG the taste!) the mushrooms, a bottle of wine and a dessert. The second time, was and evening around 21:40 (please note the kitchen closes at 10:00pm) with a heavy cold outside and were the only ones there. Few people were walking on the streets that day. They welcomed us with open arms, the service was impeccable although the kitchen was closing, soon. We got the cod chips and the smoked cod again and this time we tried also bacalhau com natas which was epic! Another fine bottle of wine and we ordered 2 desserts. One of them, needed 20 minutes to be baked, still they insisted, no matter how many times i told them i don't want to keep them late. The nougat needed 20 minutes and it was worth the waiting....like velvet caramel....so soft and tasty! Then it was the second one who stole my heart: Baba de camelo: you need to try it! Like a sweet cloud in your mouth! Anyway, we love the food there and the service is always amazing! The prices are reasonable and the place is so cute with amazing views. We will go back again and again! I did not take pictures because I was busy...

My wife and I had our first day excursion walk through Porto and by 4-4:30 we were tired and hungry from the walking around this most majestic city. I searched along the river front for a restaurant on Yelp and came across Bacalhau. There was closer restaurants but they were mostly closing at 4:30pm for dinner service starting at 7pm. I called Bacalhau and they said they were open so we decided to walk and find this hidden gem nestled at the end of the riverside walk away from all the other restaurants and tourists crowding the other restaurants.

We could not ask for a better experience and service with delicious cod chips, bread and olives and OMG mushrooms with asparagus and heavenly potatoes (I wanted more potatoes). We started with cordial drinks. Then we shared a bottle of moderately priced rose wine and we were set - not being rushed as people slowly started to gather to wait for service. We watched the sun set over the river and truly found a place to fall in love with. We then shared a Covine Shrimp - Bread Bisque which as an American can only compare to a fish Thanksgiving meal. Well my wife were most thankful for a completely wonderful meal and we imagine it is going to be hard to beat the meal we had at Bacalhau. I think we may need to go back to get their cod - I know such a...

What a fantastic dining experience. We may be remembering his name incorrectly, but we think it was Sergio: he was an absolute delight. We didn't have a reservation and sat down right around sunset. We were freezing outside with the strong wind blowing in from the ocean, but he gave us cozy covers and we decided to stay outside for the whole meal. Wonderful food selection and he was very patient with our wine selecting even though he was the only one working there and all the outside tables were full. From reading other reviews, it seems that the person serving you has a huge effect on whether you enjoy it or not, but we'd highly recommend it regardless. We're not a fan of the touristy spots, so this being the last restaurant on the strip makes it feel a bit more intimate and authentic to the Porto-Portuguese culture & vibe. It also being on the end of the strip which starts to curve down river gives you a little more sunset view than anywhere else on this side of the river. Thank you, Bacalhau! Compliments to the chef & to Sergio!
