A friend who had visited Flow and loved it told me about their new location closer to our neighbourhood. When I looked into it, I discovered they're part of the same chain as Mistu, a restaurant where we'd previously enjoyed great food. We decided to try Barôco on an early Saturday evening.
The atmosphere was wonderful, and our server Maurizio excelled at this job - his recommendations were spot-on throughout the meal. The cocktails were the highlight of the experience. I was pleasantly surprised by the Carribean Shore that Maurizio suggested - I'd expected it to be overly sweet, but it struck the perfect balance. My spouse enjoyed the Fifth Taste.
We started with the burrata and tomato, which was delicious. For my main course, I ordered the fish raviolo. Initially, I found the seafood aroma quite strong, but as I continued eating, it grew on me. My spouse chose the pork, and we both liked the malagueta sauce and the side of 15 grilled vegetables that Maurizio had recommended.
Unfortunately, the desserts fell short of expectations. We tried both the kataifi and pistachio desserts. Surprisingly, the pistachio semifredo tasted more like peanuts than pistachio to me. Next time, I'll try the Basque cheesecake instead.
Overall, Barôco is a superb addition to the neighbourhood, and we'll certainly...
Read moreI have to admit, I was wondering prior to our dinner whether the very high Google review score reflected reality. We've been disappointed in the past by trendy looking places with very long menus, promotion of a 'fusion' approach, and the latest in a stable of similarly trendy restaurants. Barôco blew my skepticism out of the water. The food exceeded our expectations, with a couple dishes (notably the ravioli de peixe and the lemon/asparagus risotto) being exceptional. Great wines by the glass. Impressive atmosphere in a furbished old warehouse/factory(?) Outstanding service by our waitress, who remembered/followed our requests in a way we've not often experienced elsewhere. And truly some of the best cocktails we've had at any place in Portugal - especially Ashes to Gold. Very glad to have this place in our...
Read moreThis place is definitely something special. We visited during their first week of soft opening and were super happy with our experience.
We luckily sat at the bar and Sandra, the head bartender, made the whole experience very fin and enjoyable. Her cocktail menu is next-level. The tequila-miso, blue cheese, and clarified coffee cocktails were all very innovative but classy & and perfectly balanced.
The food was just as impressive. We had the seafood raviolo and vodka pasta, both full of flavor and beautifully done. Loved the semi-open kitchen too.
The restaurant manager Bruno was also very friendly and helped us with our next reservation & everyone on the team made us feel so welcome.
Will definitely be...
