I had great hopes for this place, as it had a good rating on Booking.com and great location (plus, as have visited several other hotels in the same city before, which had always met or exceeded my expectations). It was a bit expensive for what it offered - a tiny room, no cooking facilities or even minibar/fridge (compared to elsewhere in Piran, where one could get a whole apartment for the same price), but since the trip was a last-minute decision, there were not many free accommodations left for that weekend and this one looked promising on paper.||||Contrary to what its description on Booking.com says, i.e. that all rooms have a desk (see picture 1), mine did not have it (working on the laptop from the bed - not ideal). ||||Moreover, I was unpleasantly surprised finding out only upon arrival that the prices and other text (discounts) stated on their website are apparently "incorrect". Their website stated 20% discount on sole occupancy (see picture 2) - which was not granted to me (not even 10% or 5%). I showed them their website, as this fact was first denied, but I was then mocked for it ("Do you know how much others in Piran can now charge?" was used as an argument). Also, when making my booking on the phone, the older gentleman (owner?) stated that he would reduce the price for me since I would not be taking their lavish breakfast. Upon leaving, none of this materialised. A younger man in his late 40s (manager?) dealing with payment brusquely informed me that no discounts whatsoever would be applied (apparently in agreement with the owner or following his instructions). No apology or even embarrassment about the situation (or about the violation of consumer law). Left a rather poor impression of greediness/unlawfulness/shadiness mixed with rudeness -- not what other places in Piran (or Slovenia) are generally like at all.||||While the location of the hotel is great (up on the hill, close to the church and pastoral centre where many activities, such as concerts, take place), don't book this hotel if sleep is important to you, particularly on lower floors, as the noise from the stairway and from the preparation and operation of the breakfast room below contribute too much noise to drown it out with earplugs....
Read moreThere are lots of good things about this hotel. The location is fabulous - a few mins away from both the bell tower and Tartini Square, you can get to everywhere in Piran really quickly by foot. The decor is charming and quirky, and the rooms have air conditioning which was really useful during the hot weather this month. Breakfast is plentiful with a variety of breads, a massive plate of meats and cheese, lots of fruit and various cereals. We particularly appreciated the fact that the hotel manager sourced gluten free options for the gf member of our party. ||On the downside: the rooms are rather small and the Tripadvisor description advertising the rooms as having a desk and seating area was not accurate for our rooms. The twin room did have a small desk, but there was no seating area other than the beds themselves. The double room had no space for either a desk or a seating area; indeed we had to put one of our cases in the built in cupboard in the wall as there would not have been space for it on the floor. The bathrooms did not have toiletries other than a half-empty bottle of handwash by the sink - not essential of course but we would have expected better from a mid-range hotel like this. We were also told when booking our rooms that the price included a free parking space 200m from the hotel. When we arrived, however, we were directed to two paid car parks in the town, and the only one with space available was some distance away and charged 24€/day. We managed to sort this out in the end when I queried this by email with Max, the hotel owner - we moved our car to the private parking space the day after we arrived, and the cost of the car park was deducted from our final bill. But it would have been better to be given the correct information from the start. As a final issue, while our communications with Max before our visit were friendly and helpful, we felt that the onsite manager (not Max) was not very friendly or welcoming, making us feel rather ill at ease during our time there, which unfortunately affected the quality of our stay and the impression we had...
Read moreMax Piran was such a fantastic find for our extended honeymoon vacation. A cute little hotel with friendly and helpful hosts, situated within the walls of Piran, close to everything and all at a great price, what more could you ask for...funnily enough we did end up asking for more. ||||While in Piran, we sent home a package to the States, full of gifts and souvenirs we had collected during our prior month of traveling. When we got home 2 months later we discovered the package had never made it to our house (it was due to arrive before we returned from our travels) and the only tracking information we had was mostly in Slovenian. We thought we would never see those precious items again. In a hail-mary attempt, we emailed Max Piran to see if they would be willing to talk to the Post Office in Piran for us. Without missing a beat they took our tracking receipt info, went to the post office and were able to track down our package, all in less than 24 hours. Within a few weeks the package was at our front door. They never even asked for compensation for shipping cost or their time (we did eventually wire them money). ||||I think it goes without saying that you are in good hands at Max Piran, we cannot thank them enough for returning our cherished...
