I have been going to Sgt Pepper for years but will never go back after how my colleagues and I were treated on Saturday night.
I work very hard at the very busy restaurant next door and because my restaurant attracts so many tourists, I find myself making lots of suggestions about where to go after dinner.
Once in a while my colleagues and I like to go out after work and so we'll go up to SGT Pepper (what was our fav place) because it's right next door and because it closes at 2am (which is a good time for us to go home).
On Saturday night the bouncer let me in (as usual) but then stopped us all when he saw my two colleagues. We were told to wait exactly where we were. Other people were let in (with no problems) which left the three of us standing there so puzzled and slightly embarrassed and very annoyed because we only had an hour before closing time. The bouncer kept eyeing my two colleagues (who happen to be two gay guys). We all felt really uncomfortable while we waited for his superior to arrive.
The head bouncer got to us and I asked him right away if we were held up because my two friends are gay. He said we were told to wait because Sgt Pepper has a prostitution problem and that he just had to check to see if I was a prostitute or not!!!! I was so hurt by that and so was the doorman (who just so happens to know me from back when we were at camps bay high school).
I was so humiliated, insulted, angry, completely livid by that statement. I work so hard to get what I want and have never even thought to use my body to use sex for money.
Will they now stop any young, black lady to check if they are a prostitute? This is 2018 why did I have to feel the way I did on Saturday night? I'm really angry and so are my friends who also felt homophobic vibes (big time) from the first bouncer. What a shame! We were just looking to have a good time but that ruined our entire night. Wow!
The older bouncer told me that you guys have about 46 cameras on site then surely you should handle things a lot better. We let gay, straight, bi, black, white, blue, pink, purple, atheist, Muslim, Buddhist people in, without stopping them because of what they look like, and still got rid of our 'prostitution problem'. Why did I have to know about your prostitution problem? It shouldn't have been made my problem.
If you don't want prostitutes finding business in your club then you should rather take the time and get to know them (using the footage from all your cameras) and weed them out directly, instead of stopping people at the door to ruin their nights and humiliate them.

Read moreI visited on a quiet Tuesday afternoon with my boyfriend, and we were the only customers.
Even so, it took thirty minutes for the staff to make a single cocktail and a cappuccino. When my boyfriend went to check what was taking so long, he found the staff just chatting inside.
Apparently, the cocktail bartender wasnât working that day, so the waitress tried to make the drink herself. I tried ordering one cocktail after another, but each time they didnât have the ingredients. After six failed tries, I settled for a margarita.
Unfortunately, the margarita missed the mark. The rim had thick chunks of sea salt flakes instead of a thin rim how itâs supposed to be, and the acidity was overwhelming.
Instead of lime, she also made it with lemon, which made the drink even sharper and hard to enjoy. Even though she is not a bartender, a 3 ingredient drink shouldnât be so hard to make. Especially having Google at our fingertips nowadays đ Come on.
With drinks taking half an hour, we decided not to order food, paid, and left. The lack of attention and slow pace were disappointing, especially with no other customers to serve. Letâs just say Iâll never be...
