We had a wonderful 1 month stay with Liz at Lancaster. We stayed in the Yellow Cottage/Suite most of our visit. It is a lovely space for a couple or small family. The bed and bathroom we very large and well appointed. The bed as so very comfortable and the custom made soaps were amazing! The yellow cottage also has a larger private patio with planter garden which we and out child enjoyed every day! There was a fully equipped kitchen, dining table with open plan living room area. Both were every comfortable and had plenty of space for us and our very active 3 year old. While we were off on other adventures Liz allowed us to keep our large bags there. Once returning we stayed in. a lovely studio which was also very well appointed. The Studio worked really well for the 3 of us even though it was a bit smaller than the 1 bedroom cottages. The studio still had and generous and lovely 4 piece bath plenty of storage and closet space. The bed was set back from the living space making it feel roomy and more separate. It also had lovely open plan kitchen, dining area with a proper table, and living area. Of course it also had a large private patio! Which is so lovely when the weather is nice as it often is in Joburg. We were able to play on the patio with our little one and then enjoy a quite drink or late night meal while the little one was sleeping! Best of both world for family travel! We enjoyed the amazing breakfast each morning cooked hot to order. The coffee and teas were always perfect! We also took a tray in our room a couple of mornings which was equally yummy! Liz and her staff went out of their way to make us feel at home and welcome while traveling without little one. Liz even found us a few toys to keep out little one happy at breakfast and to enjoy in our court yard. A few days of the trip it was jsut me and my little one. Liz always checked in to make sure we were doing well. She went above and beyond helping me with my little one when I took ill and picking up some things from the Chemist for me. (I mean really you would never get that level of service or caring at a hotel!!) We enjoyed the grounds playing, sipping, coffee, swimming as well. I loved that the pool was fenced keeping our little one safe. Having the private court yards allowed us to play outside without feeling like we were bothering other guests. The court yard was also lovely for a bit of a date night while having little safe and nearby. The neighborhood is great there are restaurants of all kinds, coffee and play space in walking distance. It is a nice safe area to enjoy a daily walk or run as well. Liz also has so many wonderful recommendations of resturants and activities for all ages and interest. There is a driver on site should you need. Also, uber is very easy to catch. (Especially with the free WiFi offered while staying.) The security makes you feel safe and comfortable without going overboard. As, I mentioned Liz and all of her staff are top noch! One thing I will change on our next visit is packing less!! With the affordable and wonderful full service laundry there is no need to that extra bag of cloths! Also, with the lovely grounds, and so many things to do just a short walk or car ride no need for all those extra a toys and activities for the kids. We plan to go back to Joburg in the coming years and certainly plan to stay with Liz at Lancaster. It is a truly amazing place to stay and you can't be the price with level of service and luxury accommodation! One additional note Liz is a life saver she helped us with so many questions and a couple travel issues that popped up unexpectedly. I honestly don't know what we would have done without her! Know if you prefer a more anonymous visit Lancaster offers that too! Privacy was never a issue and Liz and her staff are happy to make you one of the family or give you privacy and space to enjoy your holiday. Either way they will be there to help you if you need anything. We honestly can't wait to go back for a visit!!

There is a faint, an exceedingly faint possibility that there is something small but necessary for your comfort that Liz at Lancaster has overlooked, but that possibility is about as probable as the sun not coming up tomorrow. There is a reason her clients consider it their home away from home as there is no creature comfort not accommodated in a thoughtful and discreet manner, from the pre-charged torches for load-shedding down to a set of pre-loaded needles with thread, the variety of teas and coffee, automatically warmed rooms - the list goes on and on. Of great value is a book created by Liz with everything you can think of in it - from the numbers to call should you lose a credit card, to information about restaurants, take-aways, sightseeing, and the like. Liz at Lancaster was highly recommended to me, and actually exceeded expectations. A rare find. Also, there is no pressure on you to be friendly - some guesthouses the hosts are in-your-face - here, you can come and go without a great big fuss - all is very efficient and professional and it runs like a well-oiled machine - nothing left to chance, and everything just works. Oh - and it is QUIET - despite abutting busy roads and areas it is somehow tucked away, and sheltered from all the traffic hum. Maybe it is the big trees, but definitely all units boast sturdy walls that ensure you hear nary a peep from your next-door neighbours. Each unit has privacy and its own piece of sun and an enclosed patio boasting flowers but can open up into larger family units. It is a small oasis of calm in the midst of this busy,...

Spending three weeks in a guesthouse felt like a challenge, but at Liz at Lancaster it turned out to be anything but. Liz and her exceptional staff have created a personal and caring atmosphere that is instantly welcoming. The self-catering accommodation, with its well-equipped kitchenette and private courtyard, is spacious and comfortable and the attention to detail speaks of Liz's long experience in the hospitality industry. There are enough hangers in the wardrobe, enough hooks in the bathroom, enough plug points (and every conceivable type of adaptor) for even the most plugged-in visitor. With Joburg suffering an intolerable and extended heatwave, the attractive pool with comfortable loungers placed in the shade offered huge relief and the birdlife attracted to the feeders in the immaculate garden added to the ambience. Great breakfasts served on the patio are an added pleasure. What's...
