Our trip to Barcelona just ended and it had the worst ending with this hotel. We had booked the Family room because we were 4 adults at the beginning and we end up being 3. Arriving at the front desk, the woman working there, Luna, told us that I had booked a family room with only 1 adult and 3 kids and that I had to pay an extra room since it can’t take up to 3 adults. I told her twice that at the site that we booked it they don’t mention that it takes up to 2 adults and 2 kids and I didn’t make any mistake with the booking. She continued assuming that we made the mistake and we have to pay for an extra room.As I’m also working as a Front desk agent, you never tell to a guest that it’s their fault without searching first. She called maybe her supervisor or the hotel manager, I’m not sure yet and she indeed confirmed that it was their mistake and they don’t mention anything about kids. To continue, she told us that they will do an extra bed so we can be comfortable and we thanked her, without knowing what we will face next. As we got the keys, we took the lift and we ended up to the 3rd floor. And what we faced? A DOUBLE ROOM FOR 3 PEOPLE. We never got any extra bed, and we got 2 singles bed not even 1 double bed. We said don’t make it a big deal and just go with it. The pillows are really uncomfortable and you can’t sleep, we only had 2 towels, and during the night we never managed to sleep due to the heat, we were sweating like there is no tomorrow because the A/C barely works. they never informed us that the bar and the reception isn’t 24h. Open, or if it was, we didn’t find anyone at night where we went to the lobby to find someone to complain about not be able to sleep. The morning came, the breakfast was decent for 18€, and at the check out, when we complained about all these they just said “I’m sorry for that, you have a remaining balance of the accommodation tax”. That was it. The did NOTHING for the horrible accommodation, and I truly believe that it doesn’t work as a 4* hotel. I’m really disappointed for paying almost 200€ for just a night that it turned into nightmare. Please choose wisely where you are going to stay in Barcelona and don’t make the same mistake. Hope in the future you will be able to take more serious the complaints from the guest and eventually you will do something to improve your services to match a...
Read moreUnfortunately in our two-week trip through Spain the Catalonia Eixample 1864 was our least favorite hotel experience. When we turned on the AC there was a pretty unbearable mildew/mold smell that came from the unit. The first night we slept with the patio door (the only exterior opening in the room) open. Sleeping with an entry door open definitely didn't feel comfortable given the ease with which someone could potentially jump from the adjacent rooftop onto our patio.
The next morning we explained the problem to the front desk and asked that they take some action. We left for the day. Upon our return in the afternoon they said they had checked into it. Unfortunately the smell remained for the duration of our trip. I discussed it with the front desk again and they said "There is nothing we can do - unless you would like to change rooms." We decided we didn't want to pack up all of our stuff and change rooms. We had to continue to sleep with the patio door wide open. You can imagine the difficulty sleeping with the Barcelona street noise going all night long.
In addition to the smell there was an issue with their staff. One morning, just after returning to our room and with the "do not disturb sign" on the door: I turned around - heard a click of a master key - and one of their staff was entering the room: He didn't knock, he ignored the do not disturb sign, and he did not announce himself. I looked at him and he apologized, then left the room. I don't think I've ever had someone attempt to enter my room without knocking and announcing themself!
The other problem with the sixth floor rooms directly on Carrer de Roger de Llúria is that they are directly below the rooftop pool bar. The rooftop pool bar, when it is open, plays some music on repeat that is quite loud on the patios of these rooms. It wouldn't be so bad if there was some variety to the music but the music seems to be some sort of 90's euro-synthwave track with about a 12 minute cycle on repeat. After the 20th or 30th time listening to the same beat wafting through various overdubbed and repetitive lyrics, all thoughts of us relaxing on the patio in the afternoon...
