EDITED Marina Bayview - trip advisor review
Excellent resort. Very clean and attentive staff. Pool is kept very clean and maintained daily and the pool area is very good, although it could do with a twice daily litter pick up from the idiots that don't throw their stuff in the bin or leave it to blow around (there are no bins poolside). The sunbeds are very sturdy metal type (that don't flip up when you sit on the end!). These do get snapped up quickly and by about 9am they're all but gone. The pool is a little small in my opinion for the size of the complex and can get a little crowded at peak times although we never failed to enjoy the water whenever we wanted. The baby pool is a good size and didn't get full while we were there.
The bar/restaurant is good and the food of a great standard although we only ate there a couple of times as it is very expensive The menu is very limited and if on a board basis (we were self catering) we thought you could exhaust the choices very quickly. Also very limited choices for children too.
The hotel is probably at the highest point in Puerto Rico and most rooms have a glorious view of the harbour and Bay Area. There are several flights of steps down to the pool depending on which level you were on, but if you're able-bodied it's no more than a couple of flights of stairs back home. For those feeling a bit lazy (so what you're on holiday) or have limited mobility there is a good working lift to all floors which has an external glass view of the pool area - this could take around four to five people and was always working. There are access ramps in certain but not all areas. Reception is very clean, spacious and bright and the receptionists are always happy to help you, very pleasant and spoke very good English too.
Our room was a deluxe suite (A302) and we were very impressed. It's cleaned everyday except Thursdays and Sundays with new towels daily and bed linen changed every two days. The only thing we were initially disappointed in was the lack of a second bedroom. There was very spacious bedroom with sliding louvre doors between the living area and kitchen, which had a large wardrobe and drawers with two single beds pushed together. The beds were very comfy. There was a sofa bed and underneath that a pull out bed. We put our five year old to sleep in the main bedroom and then transferred him to the sofa bed when he was asleep and we were ready to retire. Those with kids who sleep lightly might want to be aware of this when booking (although there may be other rooms with additional bedrooms we were quite happy with our room and set up) There is a microwave, large fridge with top freezer compartment, twin electric hob, kettle and toaster plus glasses, cutlery and pans and a few storage cupboards and draws. There's a dining table for four plus a wide screen, wall mounted Tv in the lounge. Bathroom was very good with a massive walk in shower, normal removable shower head plus a large fixed "rain" type shower head (which i loved!). Only trouble is it tended to drain very slowly so had to pause in between showering to stop it overflowing. Very well decorated, bright and clean with everything to a high standard of build quality. Air conditioning was faultless and kept the room cool but not freezing. We turned it off during the evening as it really wasn't uncomfortable as long as you kept the blinds drawn throughout the day the room remained relatively cool. Surprisingly the air con was not an additional charge which is the first time I've ever been abroad and not had to pay for it. There was a good sized electronic combination safe in our room at an additional charge of 4 euros per day paid in advance. Our balcony area was huge. Two full sized sunbeds a table and chairs all suited alfresco meals when we ate in. Plenty of room out there to dry clothes towels etc, and almost all apartment balconies seemed to get the sun from dawn till dusk so great for tanning and drying stuff. A great place for a...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our stay at marina bayview overall. Our room was perfect and the views from the balcony were stunning! |The location was perfect for us. We wanted a very chilled holiday and I think the location allows for that overall. There’s a few restaurants and bars at the bottom of the steps if you don’t want to go too far. There’s also a supermarket in the same location which is handy for pastries, snacks and drinks to stock up on for the week (although you do have to endure the gruelling stairs with the shopping, but worth it to keep costs down). |There’s more restaurants and bars about a 15 minute walk around the bay. If you want a more lively vibe, you can walk or taxi (around €6) to the commercial centre which we did one night. It is a lot busier with a lot more bars and restaurants although maybe slightly overwhelming depending on what atmosphere you’re looking for. |The hotel was nice and quiet and we had no issues with loud noise keeping us awake. They offer a bbq night with live music on a Friday night which I highly recommend (€20pp). The food was very tasty and the variety was great. |We were self catering and opted for breakfast at the hotel one morning before a boat trip. The breakfast is a bit on the pricey side (€18pp). You can definitely find a lot cheaper breakfasts in restaurants along the bay (some offering €7 breakfasts so a fraction of the price, but require the walk). The lunch menu has a good variety and the food was really enjoyable. Staff at the pool bar were really friendly and attentive.| There’s also a small shop by reception with drinks, a few snacks, water and essentials if you aren’t able to get to the shop or don’t want to carry things back up the stairs. |We had a few beach days which was lovely. The loungers by the beach are very reasonable (€10.50 euros for 2 loungers and an umbrella) and there’s plenty of shops, restaurants and bars to peruse throughout the day. |Our initial first impression of the hotel was a lot higher than towards the end. This was mainly due to the pool loungers which has been mentioned in many reviews. The welcome sheet explicitly says that loungers cannot be reserved. However, this is not enforced and unless you want to be up every morning before 8am to secure decent loungers then you’ll be out of luck. |Most mornings at least by 8:15am, if not earlier, most of the loungers would be taken by towels with no one occupying them (attached a photo of the pool at 8am on our last day). The only loungers left by 8:30am, if there were any, would be ones shaded by trees or without an umbrella. Some guests would leave towels all day and not return until after 4pm, which is a shame because that meant others missed out throughout the day for no reason. You could see other hotel pools from the balcony and could see that this didn’t seem an issue at surrounding hotels, so I’m not sure why it’s such an issue at this hotel. | This ultimately impacted our holiday as we felt we had to get up early in order to secure loungers. We otherwise usually wouldn’t have gotten up so early, especially after later nights. It wasn’t an option to not get an umbrella as my partner is very fair and cannot be out in the sun the whole day, so we felt we had no choice but to join the battalion of lounger reservers towards the end of our week despite strongly disagreeing with it. |I believe the hotel should either enforce their policy of no reserving or they should remove the policy so that there are no expectations. This was the only let down of the hotel in our opinion and could’ve been a 5 star stay otherwise. I’m not so sure if we would’ve booked this hotel had we known it would be so bad with the loungers and that we’d have to set an alarm every morning like we were...
Read moreJust home from a weeks stay at Marina Bayview and to be honest, our holiday was a bit spoiled by the poor customer service skills of the staff at this hotel. I just want to start off by saying this hotels facilities are pretty good - nice rooms, nice pool area with pool bar and everywhere is kept clean and tidy. It’s in a good location too, lots of different areas to go to for drinks and food. However, right from day one the staff couldn’t care less about the different issues we faced detailed below. We arrived at around 11pm and there was no staff except from a security guard on reception. He made it clear he didn’t speak English. He gave us our room key etc and sent us on our way with no directions or didn’t show us where to go. The place at first was quite difficult to get around with lots of stairs and different sections for different rooms, so took us a bit of time to find our room. Then the room door lock was broken and I had to report it to the security guard who quite clearly couldn’t be bothered helping because of how late it was. Eventually he phoned someone who just said, “yeah wait until the morning and we’ll sort it for you”. So we had to sleep in a room that was unlocked the whole night but we were assured it was safe (which means absolutely nothing to me). Reported it in the morning to reception staff, I asked for a new room to be told “it is too busy at this time in the morning to change rooms, so we will have to discuss this later”. They sent a repair man to fix the door and I had to negotiate with reception to at least get the safe for free (which by the way, was my idea. Nice to know I’m doing receptions job for them and coming up with solutions). Later came back to discuss getting a new room, to be told that it’s just not happening. So, I decided to let it go at this point as I just wanted to enjoy my first day on holiday. Returned back to the room to discover that the door still didn’t operate fully as I could literally just yank the door open and the lock would come loose but I just decided to leave it as I could tell the staff honestly couldn’t care less. Other points to make are; cleaning services only came in 3 times throughout the week which I think is poor, I had to ask one afternoon for clean towels so we could have a shower and we were told no, we will have to wait until the morning. We also had to go out and ask for toilet roll because of the lack of cleaning visits. Breakfast at the pool bar wasn’t great food really, I’ve had worse to be fair but it was definitely over priced as well. We could go out and get a nicer breakfast for cheaper. Last thing was; on the night before we left, we discovered that the cleaning service had been in and damaged my partners Apple Watch charger which was plugged in. They’ve obviously not bothered to move it while making the bed and yanked it out the wall in the process and it has now damaged it. The charger no longer works and I’ve checked apple website, the charger costs £55. Reported this to reception, the gent was more shocked at the cost of the charger than the fact the cleaners careless attitude damaged our property. He said “yes, we will need to report this to housekeeping in the morning”. That was it, never heard anything back so that’s us down £55 for a new charger, just to top off the holiday nicely I guess! Overall, a nice place to stay but spoiled by staff who aren’t interested in sorting problems and making their guests comfortable. Also, 90% have really poor English, which really didn’t help with the issues we had. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this hotel and I bet there are way better resorts to stay in for...
