I am on vacation with my family, visiting several cities in Spain. My stay at this hotel has been the only unpleasant experience of my vacation. We are usually very selective about hotels we choose and research/read reviews so we had picked this hotel with a high level of confidence. It turned out to be a thorough disappointment. We flew in earlier than planned from Barcelona and were unable to check in early. The gentleman at the reception said there were no available rooms. Not a big deal, we knew early check in is never guaranteed so we checked our luggage into the luggage check room and went sightseeing. Check in was at 3pm, we returned to check in at 5:30 pm. We took our bags and headed to the same floor (we were on the same reservation and had adjoining rooms automatically in all the hotels we booked). When we got out of the elevator onto our floor, we were greeted by the most obscene stench. It smelled of rotten boiled eggs. This was in the lobby. We quickly mentioned how horrible the smell was and dashed into our individual rooms to escape the smell. Imagine my absolute horror when it turned out the smell was coming from my room! I opened the door and the foul stench hit me like a wave. I ran back out into the lobby, stunned. I ran into a member of staff who noticed my reaction and said yes, it was known there was a bad smell there and that was “a bad room”… in their exact words. Now, I’m not unrealistic to think things don’t go wrong. I had a great experience at our hotel in Barcelona despite the fact that my AC didn’t work the first night. I brought it to their attention, they fixed it and I was satisfied. They didn’t know what was wrong but fixed it once I mentioned it. This situation was NOT that. In this situation, the management KNEW the room smelled like decaying eggs and still booked a paying customer to stay there. This was NOT okay. I went downstairs to speak with reception. There the female receptionist hears my complaint and responds with “no other guests have made that complaint”. I was shocked! The conversation went downhill from there as she tried her hardest not to satisfactorily rectify the situation while all the while patronizingly saying “I’m trying to help you”. She refused to find adjoining rooms to move my family saying we didn’t ask for adjoining rooms on the reservation… even though the rooms were booked together on the same reservation and all the hotels we booked at (including this hotel) had us in adjoining rooms automatically. She said she had no other rooms to move me to and then when I kept pressing she reluctantly mentioned a much lower floor room. When I turned that down she said she had only one other room in the whole hotel so I agreed to go check it out. It was a much smaller, inferior room. I didn’t want to keep arguing so I asked to speak to the manager and was told they wouldn’t be around till the next morning. Fine. I returned both key cards to the original room I’d been given and she gave me back one keycard for the new room. When I asked about the other key card (you should always get two, unless YOU say you only prefer to have one) the receptionist looked at me and said “why? Isn’t it only you in the room?” I tell her I prefer to have the second key card and she reluctantly hands it to me. After a few minutes my family informs me they also could not bear the smell (it seeped into their room as well since they were next door to the offending room) and they were given a different room. (Bear in mind, the receptionist told me they had no other rooms. So yes, she lied.) I have NEVER encountered such poor service in any establishment whose business is hospitality. I am absolutely appalled and the management at Hotel Almudaina should be embarrassed and give priority to retraining their staff in...
Read moreThe hotel is situated on quite a popular and busy street. This means that the rooms, if you have the windows open, can be quite noisy. But it is very convenient for shops, travel, amenities, restaurants and bars all within a quick walk. ||The reception area is tidy and well kept. With the reception staff that we dealt with to be very pleasant and helpful. We arrived at about 11:30am and we knew that checkin would not be till circa 3pm. We only wanted to drop our bags off. We didnt even have to ask and they staff on duty at reception told us that the rooms should be ready in about an hour or so (so around 12:30pm) and offered us a key card for the luggage store. Thats good customer service. ||After lunch, we went back to reception to checkin, our rooms were on the 7th floor. The rooms were pleasantly large for a central location. The bathroom was also well stocked and towels provided. The rooms were kept clean. Noise was a slight issue as sound echoed along the corridors and there were the odd guests in the hotel who could have given more consideration to others. The air con is also centrally controlled and as the weather was not that cold (was fine for me) but rooms did get quite stuffy on a couple of nights as the air con was turned very low. It did however get turned on during the last night of our stay as the weather did get warmer. ||Breakfast is on the 2nd floor and it was a bit chaotic with the restaurant staff being kept very busy. Food was replenished at a reasonable rate, with the odd occasion where food took a bit longer than it should be the restocked, but this was more due to the staff being busy rather than negligent. You can tell as the staff was always on the move. When it was not too busy, the staff did clean tables quickly and replenished any empty food. The staff here do work hard and made breakfast pleasant. ||We have to say. Everything we fancied and tried for breakfast was very good. Things from the pastries, to the fruit, to the cooled breakfast. They were all enjoyable and we found ourselves eating more than we should! Where it could have improved upon was the coffee/tea machines, which seemed to struggle with filling cups in a quick manner. This included hot water for the tea where it felt like it really struggled. Also, the temperature in the restaurant was a bit on the stuffy side when it was full, so turning on the air con would have benefited.||All in all the hotel was good and it worked for us. The lifts were a bit on the smaller side and it struggle with capacity during peak periods. Again, there were some odd guests who did not give consideration to others, such as a couple of more elderly ladies who were very rude in the lift - not the hotel fault, but they stood there and complained that the lift was not moving, even after being informed that they squeezed in and put the lift over its weight limit. Barring that, everything was as it should be for a quality city centre hotel. Just a shame that it was some guests who thought that they were more entitled than others.||Would I recommend this hotel? Yes. Its got a good location, good breakfast, friendly staff and good rooms? You cannot control other guests behaviour, but I wanted to make people aware that if in the event that it does attract certain characteristics and behaviour, that you...
Read moreTwo friends and I visited Palma for four nights. Our visit to this hotel got off to the best start with the receptionist, Borja. He was so welcoming. He let me practice my not so great Spanish and then also spoke to my friends in English. He was the best start to our 4 night break in Palma. |The hotel is lovely. Two of us shared a triple room on 7th floor and had plenty of space. Lovely big bathroom with super walk-in shower complete with soap, hand moisturiser, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. And great sound proofing in the bathroom (if you know what I mean!). |Plenty of electrical sockets but none by a mirror in the bedroom so hair had to be dried in the bathroom. The hairdryer wasn’t fixed so could be moved out of the bathroom if preferred. |Great wardrobe space and ample hangers. In-room fridge which was fully stocked every day with free bottles of water. Plenty of shelves and storage areas all through the room and the bathroom. |Our room faced the Cathedral and the view was fab. |We didn’t have breakfast included but when we passed by it looked good. |The hotel is in a great place. 10 minute walk to the Cathedral and the Parc de la Mar |Now the negatives. When I went to bed the first night I found three long back hairs on my pillow. The bedding was clean so I assume it was the cleaner’s. |Unfortunately our room - 712 - was directly under the bar on 8th floor and at midnight the staff were moving furniture around on the wooden floor. I had ear plugs in and even so, it was a ridiculous noise at that time of night. We heard it the following afternoon too so a regular occurrence. |Top tip- avoid all rooms 708-716 which I’d say are under the bar area. |We did also suffer with noisy revellers returning late at night but not much you can do about that. |I would still...
