Honestly, we really enjoyed our experience at this hotel!
It definitely needs some improvements, but they are working on these things.
We are a family of seven and split into two rooms next to each other, for reference.
The rooms are decently sized, clean, and well ventilated. It also helps if you leave the sliding door open. It had enough cutlery and etc. The bathroom was clean. The only thing is that the shower pressure is not the best.
The cleaning service is also good, but keep in mind they don't do your dishes and do minimal cleaning, also we were chased out of our room twice around 8:00 / 8:30 AM by the cleaning crew.
The swimming pools are clean and well looked after. It technically closes at 19:00pm because the lifeguard leaves, but you can still swim at your own liability / risk.
The breakfast spread is quite nice, some things are different every day, but either way, the food is good, best to get there early though as there is a rush from around 8:30 / 9:00 AM.
We also did the evening buffet (around €15 pp) and enjoyed the food. We did also eat at the downstairs bar / restaurant a few times and would highly recommend their bocadillos (around €4 max for a big, filling sandwich), we enjoyed the food, despite a mix up here and there due to the busyness and shift changes. The pollo bocadillo is my favorite, and I will be missing it, haha.
The hotel also has a paddle court ( around €26 for 2 hours ) and a free minigolf course with 11 holes.. the bar downstairs is great, mostly good service and you can order food / drinks to the pool, also has a a happy hour with half price drinks from 17:00 to 18:00...the bar upstairs is also nice, there is a kiddy hour from 19:00 to 20:00 (also during happy hour for the parents) which is run by the animator, Danny, very cool guy.. we really enjoyed him and his vibe. He was one of the most memorable staff members from our trip.
The service is excellent (although we found that it was lacking a bit in our second week, as the hotel was more filled up). The staff are very friendly, we particularly received good service from José, Eliana and Michael.
However, on our last day, we did not receive good service, particularly a rude and unhelpful attitude from Aram at breakfast.. for context, we had been moving tables together at breakfast during our entire stay, as the tables were maximally set up for 4 people, and this was not an issue.. on the last day, we arrived to a full breakfast hall and looked for a place we could sit, after finding a place to sit, and an extra table to move as we are 7 people and need at least 3 tables put together, he (Aram) said we could not do so, my mother asked where he would like us to sit then, to which he said we must wait for a table and proceeded to walk away (mind you this is at 9 am and breakfast ends at 10 am). We were then eventually helped by another member of staff who whispered something rude under his breath about helping us and then also made the comment that they have 500 guests to serve and we must be more understanding..
I found this comment underhanded and actually shocking, as firstly, all guests are paying guests and no one guest should be more valued or looked after than the other, and secondly, I feel that if the staff cannot manage with the capacity of guests then more staff are needed.. this should not be an issue for the guests. We really didn't appreciate this experience on our last day and it left a sour taste to our trip at the hotel.
Two of the lower points are that in our first week, there were people with small children above us, and we could hear them and their screaming kids from 11 pm onwards. Our room was also near the lifts and as a result we heard many people coming and going in the evenings. Although this is mostly to do with the other guests not being considerate of those who might be sleeping.
There is also a free bus that goes into town and comes back (ask for times at reception).
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend staying at this hotel. We will be back for...
Read moreThis hotel consists of 2 buildings with a nice garden in between. Even though the buildings are a bit older than other hotels, the insides are renovated quite nicely and are relatively modern. Besides the 3 main pools there's also a nice, well maintained garden with mini golf and (surprisingly) Chinese-like fitness machines.
The hotel offers a nice breakfast for various dietary wishes. You want a full English breakfast, you can have it. Yoghurt and fruit also fine. Chocolate spread on a croissant also no problem. These are just a few examples, you won't be disappointed.
The staff's English at the front desk is okay but a bit minimal. Often you kind of have to drag information out because the answers are so short. Germans get a more elaborate talk so it seems. I also asked about hiring the key for the safe/locker/vault, none of these words they understood. I decided to take a picture and show it to them and they said: oh yes the deposit box is 2 euro a day; Okay then. When I asked about the hiking routes mentioned in the information folder in my room I didn't directly expected to be directed to the tourist information center down the hill. Speaking of which, the hill leading up to the hotel is on the steep side but not impossible.
I stayed in a apartment size room with a little kitchen. It didn't really look like any of the computer generated pictures on their site but it was fine enough. The couch which could be converted to bed didn't seem very solid though and the mattress looked kind of broken. The kitchen was great and came with cutlery, cups, plates, bowls, pots and cooking utensils. The only thing I missed was a sponge for doing the dishes, but it's cheap to find in the supermarket. The bathroom was fine and included all the things you might need. Beds were fine too but a bit on the hard side for me. I'm mostly a side sleeper and frequently felt pain in my hip bones of the stiff springs pearcing through the mattress. Back sleeping was fine though. My girlfriend didn't have any trouble however. Overall we slept pretty good to be honest. There's no AC, but the room stays relatively cool during the very hot days. The rooms are cleaned every day except Sunday I believe, and the cleaners do a good job.
The free WiFi in the hotel. My advice: just don't use it. In the rooms the best reception is near or on the balcony, as the signal is beamed from the other building by roof antennas. But even then it's quite terribly slow, sometimes not enough for a WhatsApp phone call. Furthermore, as an IT professional, I've extreme worries about safety. The WiFi is not password protected which means anyone could capture data from the guests. This is also not compatible with the GDPR since it requires safe transmission of personal data amongst other things, the personal data you need to include while logging into the WiFi is your full name, room number and email. When you set a single WPA2 password (that's the same for everyone) at least each client will have a unique encryption, solving this immediately. Then when you're connected, each other device on the network can directly contact you, if your device is not protected enough this is another danger. I don't understand why they didn't configure it to be client isolated. If you want to use the WiFi, please use a trustworthy vpn.
Then another safety concern for me is in the bathroom. None of the metal parts are grounded. My girlfriend accidentally dropped the hair dryer in the sink with running water and almost didn't unplug it before taking it out, which could have resulted in at least a severe injury. The bathrooms seem quite up to date and I don't fully understand why this has not been done.
Anyway, overal we certainly enjoyed...
Read moreThis hotel exceeded our expectations by far. The buildings don’t look very pretty from the outside, but don’t let that fool you. The rooms have a nice decoration and are very comfortable and spacious. They have a small kitchen, a bathroom with a large shower, two sinks and a bidet, and even a hair blower. There was a little bit of mildew in some corners of the bathroom, but this is very frequent in hotels. Every day we would come back to a clean room with our beds nicely made. The beds are comfortable enough and there is plenty of closet space too. In addition, all the rooms have a balcony with beautiful views, which are equipped with a table, 2 chairs and even a hanger to dry out wet clothes. We felt like we were at home from day 1. The hotel premises are wonderful as well. There are two restaurants, one bar, three pools, paddle courts, and a minigolf, all in the middle of a gorgeous garden full of different trees, plants and flowers, and views to the mountains and the ocean. I’ve been to botanical gardens that aren’t half as pretty as this hotel’s park. The breakfast buffet is out of this world as well. There is so much variety, like eggs, charcuterie, fruits and vegetables, pancakes, cookies and other baked goodies, all sorts of different types of bread, drinks, etc. Furthermore, the staff is super friendly, always smiling and willing to help out with recommendations or answering any questions. We felt compelled to leave about €20 worth of tips to the personnel, and we don’t usually tip hotel staff. They also treat you to a welcome glass of sparkling wine (or non-alcoholic cocktail if you prefer), and they even left us a full bottle in our room as a gift one day, because it was my birthday. We’ve read bad comments about the fact that one of the bars has loud music until late at night. We were actually in the bedroom with the wall adjacent to the bar and we can say that we do not share this complaint. The bar is only open from 6 PM to 11 PM. The animation starts at 9 PM and ends at 11 PM sharp. There were a couple of nights where we were tired and went to bed before the animation finished and we were able to sleep through the noise. It really isn’t all that loud in the bedroom, and the music finishes at a very reasonable time considering people in the hotel are on vacation. We also read bad comments about the fact that you have to pay to use the hotel parking lot. We do not share this complaint either. Parking in Puerto De la Cruz is very difficult and the hotel only charges €5 a day for the parking, which leaves you right at the entrance of the building. Even municipal parkings aren’t that cheap. The hotel’s location is also great. About 30 minutes away from the Tenerife-Norte airport, and about an hour away from the Teide and many other points of interest such as Adeje, Anaga park, the capital, etc. Puerto De la Cruz in and of itself is also an interesting city with beautiful beaches and nice restaurants. It does have a lot of traffic and it’s very difficult to park, but you can take buses or pay for private parkings which are very affordable (the most we’ve paid was €2 per hour). And if all of the above isn’t compelling enough, the hotel is very well priced. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone...
