Tasca Paso Doble — Restaurant in Puerto de la Cruz

Excellent food, good value, friendly staff. We went for an evening meal on our 1st night, wanting somewhere close to the appartment and quick. For a small restaurant which you could easily miss it is a great find. We were welcomed in and attended to quickly. The owner was friendly and funny. His English is much better than my Spanish. The menu is much more varied than you may expect from a small place. My wife had the Fagottini pasta stuffed with cheese and pear. This was fantastic. Cooked perfectly and a large portion. The flavour was incredible. With two glasses of good red wine my wife was very happy with the meal. I had the chicken escalope which was again cooked perfectly so the coating was crispy and the escalope was moist. It came with home made fries and mediterranean veg. This restaurant looked good from the reviews. However, when we visited (early August 2022) there were very few patrons. The lady serving us was very polite, friendly and helpful, but the service was slow, it seemed to be because the food was being cooked hurriedly from frozen.

This was evidence in the seafood being worryingly under-cooked and the paella being so salty as to almost be inedible, presumably to hide the lack of freshness. We won't be going back and would not recommend.

Our guess is that this was once a popular restaurant, hence good historical reviews, but has not recovered from covid, so is a different place now. Sad if true, but it doesn't warrant the poor...

Tasca Paso Doblo was exactly the kind of place I was hoping for. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the food absolutely delivered. The paella was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, the ribs were tender and delicious, and the pizza had that perfect crispy base with fresh toppings.
