My recent stay at the Grand Pearl left much to be desired, with several glaring issues overshadowing the few positive aspects of the experience. Here's a breakdown of my observations:
Staff Support: The normal staff members were commendable in their service, offering good support throughout my stay.
Room Hygiene: Unfortunately, the condition of the room fell far below expectations. Upon entering, a foul odour permeated the air, and it was evident that cleanliness standards were lacking. Hair was scattered across various surfaces, indicating a lack of thorough cleaning.
Reception Desk Incompetence: The reception desk was a source of frustration rather than assistance. Despite numerous attempts to contact them for simple requests such as room freshener and dinner arrangements, I was met with ignorance. Each call was abruptly ended after a mere exchange of greetings, leaving me feeling disregarded and unheard.
Reservation Mishap: Upon arrival, I was shocked to discover that the room was unavailable due to overbooking. Despite having made prior reservations and payment, I was initially informed that there was no room available. Only after insisting on the meaning of a reservation and suggesting an upgrade did they suddenly find a room ready for me, indicating a lack of organisation and communication within the hotel.
Facilities and Staff: Despite the shortcomings in other areas, I must acknowledge the positive experiences I had at the pool and dining area. The facilities were well-maintained, and the staff members were attentive and accommodating, providing a brief respite from the overall disappointment of the stay.
In conclusion, my experience at the Grand Pearl fell short of the expectations set by its purported 4-star rating. The issues with room hygiene, reception desk efficiency, and reservation management overshadowed the efforts of the supportive staff and well-kept facilities. Unless significant improvements are made, I cannot recommend this establishment for...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel recently with my young daughter, who was unwell and needed to see a doctor. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. The price they charge is completely unreasonable for what they offer.
The room was in terrible condition — not clean at all, with bugs and even cockroaches. We went out for dinner and came back to find a cockroach was running in the bed. The towels were worn out and not clean, carpets were dirty, and the walls were covered in dust. There is absolutely no proper maintenance: the bed frame looked worn out, the dressing table’s paint had peeled off, and even the cupboard in the room made loud creaking noises when opened.
To make matters worse, there is no parking facility at all since the hotel is located inside a narrow lane. For someone traveling with family, this is very inconvenient.
Overall, the environment felt unhygienic and neglected — especially worrying as my daughter was sick. For the price they charge, this hotel offers neither cleanliness nor comfort. I would strongly advise avoiding it until serious improvements are made. Not at all worth for the price. We usually stay at Mandarina Colombo hotel. Hotel was fully booked bcoz this was an unplanned trip. So we booked this hotel. Which was same price. But not at all meeting the standard. Couldn’t find another room bcoz my daughter was already sick and she...
Read moreI stayed at Rathna Pearl Grand for two nights, and overall, the stay was alright. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the room was clean. However, as many reviews mention, there were quite a few bugs. Fortunately, the beds were clean. The washroom was also decent but looked a bit old. When I first started showering, there was a slight steel-like smell, but it disappeared after a few minutes.
One issue I faced was the lack of an in-room dining menu. When I called room service, they assured me it should be in the room, but it wasn’t. I requested a menu twice and waited for about 30 minutes, but it never arrived. After an hour of waiting, I ended up ordering from Uber Eats. When I brought this up at the front desk, they mentioned that a QR code menu was available in the restaurant, which felt inconvenient after all, room service is meant to provide convenience. Additionally, the food options from the Rice Bowl restaurant were quite limited, so I would recommend sticking to Uber Eats.
That being said, my stay was enjoyable. The room was clean enough, the rooftop view was fabulous, and the prices were very reasonable compared to similar hotels. I would consider staying here again, but the bug issue is a bit of a...
