The Manhattan Fish Market: A Culinary Gem in Colombo

What an absolute culinary delight! The Manhattan Fish Market in Colombo has completely transformed my lunch expectations. The Local Food Platter was not just delicious, but also generously portioned – more than sufficient for two people. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed every single bite, finding the quantity perfectly adequate to satisfy both of our appetites.

Their Local Food Platter is a symphony of flavors that celebrates the rich culinary heritage of Sri Lanka. The chicken in mustard sauce was a standout – tender meat with a perfectly balanced, tangy mustard coating that danced on my taste buds. The prawns sweet and sour dish added a delightful contrast of flavors, showcasing the kitchen's mastery of combining different taste profiles.

What made the experience even more exceptional was our waiter, Pasindu. His exceptional knowledge and recommendations were instrumental in helping us choose the perfect dishes. He guided us through the menu with expertise, ensuring we got the most delightful combination of flavors.

The masala Dory fish curry was nothing short of spectacular – each bite was a perfect blend of aromatic spices and fresh fish. But the real showstopper was the butter shrimp rice – spicy, rich, and incredibly satisfying. I was particularly impressed by how the dish managed to be both fiery and delicious, with each grain of rice infused with incredible flavor.

To cool down the palate, the Blue Lagoon drink was a refreshing touch – soothing and perfectly complementing the robust meal. And the best part? This incredible culinary experience was surprisingly budget-friendly, with the entire meal coming in at around 8,000 LKR – an absolute steal for the quality and quantity of food. This place was a book story from the beginning to the end I do not want to put this place in a pedestal, but regardless, I find this place’s attention to details and customer service commendable. Right from the beginning, there service started as soon as we entered the place, where we were warmly greeted, and then answered our queries and guided us to the table, although I would like to mention that it would be better if the waiters escorted us to the table leading us, which I believe is a fair criticism given their attention to details and as well as that they have already set the bar high when they greeted me, nevertheless, their food and care for us took precedence and overshadowed any upcoming flaws. The food was not exceptional but the food was really good, the highlight has to be the chips and the salsa which stole the show, and the fish did not have the traditional taste but I felt like it lacked a little authenticity, in which the taste of the fish did not feel natural( I would have preferred it way more tangy). Nevertheless, I wish I could have gotten the name of the two boys who assisted me so that I could have thanked them personally, but unfortunately I was only able to thank and shake hands with one of them, and this boy also happened to be the person who even gave us a heartfelt goodbye which was a good send off to any customers. This was my first visit to Manhattan Fish Market, located at Kolpitiya, on the 10th of January 2024, in the evening hours after a busy schedule. Since it started its operation in Sri Lanka this was my first experience, I was stunned by the overall experience I had during my whole stay.

Firstly, I want to thank the Managers, Mr. Vinodh and Mr. Aravindh, who managed to keep the surrounding atmosphere in such a wonderful way that really brought peace of mind after a rough tide in my work.

Secondly, I want to express my gratitude to the Service Crew Assistant, Mr. Shifan. The way that gentleman greeted me and worked with my request was outstanding, especially when he was so patient until I took a little bit of time to familiarize myself with the menu and finalize my dish. During the process of selection, I am really impressed with the helpful and assisting mindset Mr. Shifan had, which was inevitable.

Thirdly, the dish I ordered, Shrimp Fish Chicken Single Platter, I simply loved it! I felt like I wasted my money at other restaurants searching for the best food when I could easily get it at Manhattan.

Last but not least, the overall experience at Manhattan was simply the best, and I wish the service crew and the managers to keep up the good work. Thanks once again for bringing a big smile to my face and my tummy!
