Popeyes Basel — Restaurant in Basel

So me and two of my best friends popped in for a quick bite and the food was exquisit. To be fair their new deal for around 15chf is an absolute steal. It had ice cream, a sandwich and chips. The chips were fresh to death and the chicken was perfectly cooked. The ice cream was just alright with the oreo crumble but it was a nice touch of sweetness for the dessert. I asked the employee for more wings and he just gave us 12 for free out of pure kindness. As we were ordering we overheard another employee giving a discount to a taxi driver, because he knew it was a tough job. After our meal we started talking to the employees, who were the friendliest i've ever met. Genuineley a great pair of lads. One of them insisted that I refill my cup for a fourth time (it was free everytime). He was making sure I was well fed and left the restaurant satisfied. These lads truely cared about us and made sure we felt comfortable and happy. They absolutely deserve a raise, because they're true masters at what they do. It was last Friday at the Centralbahnstrasse 13 outlet that I wanted to try this establishment with my daughter to see if they can make a better Chicken meal than KFC. We were there just before 6.45 pm and tried to order through the order system. Made a selection but no price tagged to the meal. We tried several times and different menu still no price tag to it and also went to another order system and still the same problem. The staff was oblivious to our presences and we had to try to get their attention but they were to busy chatting among themselves or at least to be aware that we were facing difficulties placing orders. When we finally got their attention as to why there were no price indicated and they casually replied that they have ran out of chicken!!! BUT it is was 6.45 PM which is a dinner period!!! At least some indication or a notice to inform customers. Sadly I was disappointed and not sure if this establishment was serious about it. Nachtrag 31. Mai: Gemäss einem Kommentar weiter unten fordert Popeyes die Besucher auf, das Restaurant mit 5 Sternen zu bewerten damit sie ein Gratis-Eis bekommen. Meldet all diese positiven Fake-Bewertungen!

Ursprünglicher Kommentar: War zum ersten Mal dort, gegen 12.30 Uhr. Pures Chaos. Viele Kunden waren drinnen schon am warten und hinter der Theke waren alle Angestellten auf einem Haufen, manche schauten hilflos den anderen zu und wussten nicht, wie sie sich nützlich machen könnten. Die Innenausstattung ist vom McDonalds übernommen, welches vorher in diesem Lokal war. Am Touchscreen meine Bestellung zum mitnehmen aufgegeben. Da hier andere erwähnt haben, dass Postcard nicht akzeptiert wird, hab ich Barzahlung an der Kasse angewählt. Mit der Quittung stand ich wie alle anderen mitten im Raum. Der Bildschirm, der die Nummern aufruft, funktionierte nicht und eine Angestellte rief all die Nummern in Deutsch, Englisch und Französisch auf. Bei gut jeder zweiter Nummer meldete sich niemand. Vielleicht waren diese Kunden genervt und schon verschwunden. Auch ältere Nummern wurden aufgerufen, auf 530 folgte 503. So lang darf die Zubereitung für Fastfood nicht gehen. Auf einmal sehe ich einen Kunden, wie er an eine Kasse geht und bar zahlt. Ich dachte man würde hierfür aufgerufen oder zahlt wenn man das Essen bekommt, aber nein, man muss ohne Hinweis selber aktiv werden. Nachdem ich ebenfalls gezahlt und später mein Menü in der Hand hatte, schaute ich zur Sicherheit nach ob alles dabei war. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Reviews hier war meine Bestellung korrekt.

Interessant war, als ein Kunde hineinkam und fragte ob sie auch glutenfreie Brötchen haben, was die eine Angestellte verneinte. Popeyes sollte sich auf gewisse Essgewohnheiten einstellen.

Draussen an einem ruhigen Ort habe ich das Essen probiert. Ich weiss nicht ob ich einfach nur Glück hatte: Die Pommes Frites waren für Fastfood-Verhältnisse gut. Noch warm, innen etwas pampig, aussen jedoch kross und gut gewürzt (meinen Geschmacksnerven nach mit Pfeffer?). Der Deluxe-Burger hat mich positiv erstaunt. Verglichen mit einem McChicken aus dem McDonalds waren das Brötchen, Sauce etc. langweilig, das Pouletfleisch jedoch richtig fein. Die Getränkeauswahl dürfte besser sein (zum Beispiel Apfelschorle).

Budgetbedingt weiss ich nicht wann ich dort wieder hingehe, 16 Franken für ein Fastfood-Menü sind mir zu teuer. Das Team (auffällig viele Franzosen, ist die Bezahlung für ein schweizer Betrieb so schlecht?) muss dringend am Ablauf arbeiten, ein funktionierender Bildschirm für die Nummern und Bezahlung per Postcard...
