Confiserie Bachmann — Restaurant in Basel

The flat white is strong and tasty but at 7.60 CHF (more than 9 USD) it is one of the most expensive in Europe served in a cafe.

The payment system is archaic - it is impossible to pay for the coffee at the cashier.

Instead one must sit and wait for the lone waitress to take your order. If you wish to pay when you order that too is impossible ; the waitress will only accept payment after you consume your drink.

Today, Sunday, the 20th July at around 09:45 am the cafe had roughly 25 clients.

I am 50 years old and was visibly the youngest client present (I estimate the average age of the clientele to have been approximately 75 years).

Absolutely friendly staff who saved some wasted night owls with a much needed breakfast.

In the early morning after a long night out, my friends and I went to the train station to catch the train back home to Berne. While we were waiting for the train, we decided to get breakfast at Bachmanns. While eating and recovering the store manager noticed our dialect and gifted us a large bag of "Basler Läckerli" for "our long ride home" he said. Very courteous of him!...

Their location and working hours are great. Near Basel main train station and they open very early.

The bread, and drinks were fine. Sadly the service was not satisfying. They don't allow me to brew my tea bag for the 2nd time. And the staff aren't really speaking English.
