I recently stayed here and while there were some positives to the experience, several issues left much to be desired.
Positives: The hotel is centrally located, making it convenient for exploring the city. However, it’s worth noting that the surrounding area wasn’t as nice as I expected. The staff were polite and professional, always greeting us with a smile and doing their best to assist with any concerns. The shower was powerful, offering a great start to the day. Additionally, the amenities kit provided was quite good, with quality toiletries (though no conditioner was included). The breakfast had a good selection of fruits, nuts, and cheeses, as well as a variety of breads for toasting.
Negatives: The room was small, with poor soundproofing, which made it hard to relax due to noise from the hallway and neighboring rooms. Additionally, the pillows were of poor quality, leading to an uncomfortable sleep. We were disappointed to find that there were no bathrobes or slippers, and the room phone was disconnected, making it difficult to contact the front desk. The coffee setup was meant for only one person, which was inconvenient for a double room. To make matters worse, no milk was provided for the coffee. The hotel did not inform us about the late check-out that was included in our booking, and we didn’t receive the promised welcome gift upon arrival. The breakfast setup left a bit to be desired: the utensils for picking up bacon, pork sausages, and scrambled eggs were all mixed up, which is not ideal for those with dietary restrictions. The pastries were also cold, which was disappointing. The roof in our room had a dangerous slant with no protection at the edges, making it feel unsafe to move around. - We were supposed to receive some kind of gift but this never materialized Finally, no tram tickets were provided despite this being mentioned in the booking details.
In summary, while the hotel offers a good central location and a friendly, professional staff, the many small issues added up to a less-than-satisfactory experience. With some attention to these details, the hotel could provide a much more comfortable and...
Read moreWe loved our stay(s) at the Hotel D Geneva. My father and I stayed here before a hiking trip in the Alps. We liked it so much we decided to stay here again after our Alps trip before flying out of Geneva.
Location is great. It is a 3 min walk to the train station and 5 min walk to Lake Geneva/Lac Leman. All public transportation including to/from the airport is free with a Geneva Tourism ticket which the hotel helps you with. This ticket is free. Very easy train ride from Geneva airport to Cornavin, the main Geneva train station. The hotel is a 15-20 min walk across the bridge to Old Town. Geneva is very pedestrian friendly.
The hotel staff make the Hotel D special. They remembered us by name and were always immediately available to answer questions or help with any issue. They also made several excellent dinner recommendations and were happy to make reservations for us. Rooms were ready early the first time we checked in, and one room was ready when we checked in early the second time.
Rooms are clean and modern. We received free upgrades both times to bigger rooms. These rooms by a European hotel standard were very large. The bathrooms were notably excellent with nice rain showers and good water pressure. There are blackout curtains/shades also. There is a nice breakfast offered in the morning also- large spread of meats, eggs, fruit, cereal, pastries, cheese, etc.
If you travel much in Europe, you know no AC is standard and this was the case here. I didn’t really need it but it probably gets hot in the summer. You can open the windows but this does let in a lot of street noise. The hotel is in a city, so there is street noise even overnight and you can hear this from the rooms also. The neighborhood is a blend of international restaurants and businesses. We never felt unsafe there. Everyone was friendly and accommodating no matter where we went in Geneva. Just a heads up as to know what to expect.
Overall this is a great value for your money- would definitely...
Read moreStayed for my partner and i’s anniversary. I emailed prior and they gave me a good deal and I paid extra for the romantic package and paid just over £100. They were so quick at replying on emails and for this I am so grateful!||The hotel was near the red light district although we didn’t care or notice that much. I probably wouldn’t stay here if I had young children. The hotel was a perfect location, 5 minute walk to train station, less than 10 minutes to the lake. Really good spot. Hotel room was clean and really nice. Unfortunately the aircon didn’t work fully, we flagged this to the staff who were helpful but not much they could do. We went off for the day and came back and was told “it was controllable” whatever that means. It didn’t work but only one small fan of aircon. With the heatwave and temperatures reaching up to 34 degrees, we just slept with the windows open, although can be noisy outside. Bed was really comfortable and the staff were so polite and nice and attentive. They kindly looked after our bags too after check out. ||The romantic package included a romantic decoration, bottle of champagne and truffles. The decoration was just rose petals and towels in swan shape, i thought there might be balloons as I mentioned this was for an anniversary. The truffles, unfortunately were hazelnut based, and I had a hazelnut allergy so couldn’t have any… but my partner was happy with them! It’s a shame that it wasn’t flagged that they contain nuts. The champagne was fantastic but we never got given it so had to call up and ask but the staff member brought them up instantly and was very kind. I did ask for a note to be left saying happy anniversary etc but that didn’t happen. ||I would defo stay here again and recommend to a friend. Unsure if i would pay for an additional packages, seems a...
