Let’s start with the atmosphere- A normal typical Chinese restaurent in Switzerland. Worth for 3 star..
Food- I will give 65% to Xiang Yu that all other Chinese restaurent has also a very similar recipe except for one dish called sweet sour pork rib. Pls look at the photo, can u imagine or name what kind of food this is? Looks like charcoal with soy source to me. Despite of the pork rib. 3 stars.
Service- now come to the best part. We called for booking a table but there is no telephone line. So I emailed, still no reply. Finally we go there to book table, only have table after one half hours later, so we accept it. But still have to wait after we reached. There is no table was reserve.. but wait.
A middle size skinny Chinese guy with fluffy hairstyle acting like a boss, a real boss will not look like that, trust me! From beginning to end there is no smile, no thank you, not polite gesture and no appreciation but pretty much like we are paying the money to beg for the food… arranging a seat is like owe him million of dollars. However, I noticed he was always smiling to local Geneva ppl who speak French. A Chinese restaurant really have a such a bad altitude to Singaporean like us? What a joke!
Come to the billing part, a pretty Chinese lady even asked us for tips? 🤔.. a restaurant with no service at all, not even a courtesy for asking how’s the food, how’s everything…. etc. Dare to ask for tips? 0 star, but there is no 0 star, so I have to compromise and scarify for 1 star,...
Read moreI have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Xian Yu in Geneva, Switzerland.
This Chinese restaurant, located near Rue de Lausanne in the Pâquis district, is a real gem. It’s easy to access, with parking available nearby at the Cornavin train station. The interior is nicely decorated, with elegant wooden tables, Asian-style chairs, and a few tasteful art pieces on the walls. The tables are a bit close to one another, but still allow for private conversations.
The staff are very friendly and efficient, and the tableware is of great quality — a nice touch that enhances the dining experience.
We tried several dishes, including the Crispy Duck, which was absolutely delicious — perfectly cooked, with generous, high-quality pieces of duck and just the right amount of fat. The pork with Chinese black vegetables was also excellent, with a well-balanced sauce that complemented the meat beautifully. We also enjoyed a lightly spicy salad, and beef with chili peppers, which was a bit spicier but incredibly tasty and well-seasoned.
Overall, this restaurant offers great value for money considering the quality of ingredients, preparation, and service. It might be slightly pricier than some other Chinese restaurants in Geneva, but it’s definitely worth it. Highly...
Read moreTo be fair, I didn’t get a chance to eat here, so my 2-star rating was mainly to express my disappointment and hopefully get the owner’s attention for improvement.
I visited on a weeknight. Since there were no online or other reservation options, I simply walked in and was willing to wait for a table if necessary.
It was around 7:40 p.m. The restaurant was understandably busy during dinner hours, but I noticed there were still some empty tables.
I politely asked a female staff if there was a table available, and if not, whether I could be put on a waiting list. She looked at me and asked, “Just one?” I said yes. She then spoke to a male staff who seemed like a manager or someone in charge. He frowned and whispered something to her. The female staff then came back and told me, “We only do groups. You should not wait.”
Such treatment was humiliating and completely uncalled for. Of course, I turned around and left.
What just happened? Was I there begging for free food? Or was this restaurant really unwilling to serve solo diners? Where could I find their dining policy? Or was it just decided on a whim depending on how the staff felt?
No matter how good the food might be, I would not giving this place a second...
