I highly recommend you to stay here!! I stayed with my partner two separate times during our short 1 week vacation in Taiwan. The owner (?) was kind and personable. There was also an issue with my reservation on Booking that they personally took care of and immediately accommodated (even at a late hour and my lack of initial communication). They also kindly arranged a taxi for us because we were leaving at 4am for the airport during our last stay. An important thing to note (as said by others) for everyone, considering we each have differing abilities, there is no lift/elevator and some of the steps are rather steep. Further, there seems to be a discrepancy between the two rooms we stayed in as well as with photos shared on here by others (our second room had no fridge and was significantly smaller - a bit of a squeeze for 2 people to maneuver around). The sidewalk can get quite dark if you arrive at night, but the neighbors are nice and may direct you. The location is very convenient as multiple bus stops are located a few minutes away as well as a famous old-town district! I recommend getting an herbal drink from the traditional medicine shops and taking a walk around. There’s a family mart slightly across the street from the hotel or a more local (?) shop for immediate essentials! You may have to frequently walk through a temple that the sidewalk goes through to get to/from the hotel, but I would bow my head respectfully every time though it also being a casual hangout spot for the older locals. The hotel’s decoration and overall aesthetic is a beautiful mix between retro and traditional. It’s an older but well maintained building; the rooms are very clean and well sealed up to prevent any critters/bugs. The shower is not separate from the rest of the bathroom, which has me suggest they switch from disposable slippers to reusable rubber ones as it got dangerously slippery after showering to get to the sink/toilet. However, it’d dry overnight! The AC worked like a charm, which was a haven from the August heat outside. They also had umbrellas to borrow for the typhoon/rainy season! Again, thank you for everything! We would definitely...
Read moreWe stayed here for 2 nights. It is an interesting and unusually decorated hotel. The theme is Chinese retro with the hotel completely designed to reflect what a house/building would look like back in the 30s, or maybe it's the 40s or 50s in China/Taiwan. Even the phones are the old style rotary phones. The decor is very interesting but tasteful. There's no elevators, and the building goes up with no rooms on the first floor, so you have to walk up flights of stairs. However, they have an innovative pulley system to hoist your luggage up to your floor for you, so that you don't have to lug your heavy luggage up several floors. ||||The rooms themselves are extremely small. The bed is built on a platform perhaps to give the room a more open feel since everything is literally packed into a very small space. The side tables, bed, and a little ledge (that would be like a desk if it weren't so narrow that it can only be considered a ledge) are all right next to each other with little room to even walk around. The bathroom is very small as well. If you get claustrophobic, this hotel/motel is not for you. Otherwise, the price is right for a quaint boutique hotel like this and the location is somewhat centrally located. ||||Although it is a good 15 minutes walk to the nearest MRT, there are bus stops closer than that and there's plenty of convenient stores, shopping of all kinds, and casual eateries like breakfast shops, and quick lunch places all around so that you don't really even need to take any kind of public transportation to get your essential needs met.||||The front desk ALWAYS has someone there, which is nice. The hotel staff's English, I would say, is pretty limited, but since I speak Mandarin, I didn't have any trouble communicating with them, and they were definitely very friendly and helpful, with giving advice on tourist spots and how to get to...
Read moreI stayed for five nights in this charming hotel. It's located in the daodaocheng area (Old Taipei) and you can get to the row of shops just minutes on foot. I even walked to the Ningxia night market. The bus stop is just across the corner if you wanna get to the city centre. Food stalls and convenience stores are all around so you won't go hungry at all.
The room is cosy and it's quiet. It's cleaned daily. I slept like a baby. Basic amenities are sufficient. I appreciate that the ac comes has heater functionality - useful for winter! You can use the common kitchen area if you get takeaway food.
One extra star for the front desk man who's ever helpful, friendly, and has a good taste in music. (Sorry I didn't get your name!)
Note: As this is an old building, there's no lift in the hotel. The staircase is a little steep (although I got a room on the second floor and the front desk man helped me with my luggage when checking in). If you're not mobile or travelling with someone with mobility issues, take...
