I booked a bed in a shared dormitory for around 600 TWD per night. The location is very convenient, close to the airport MRT, and there is a convenience store right downstairs. At night, you can enter the building from the side next to the store, and the area is well-lit. I did not experience the dark alley issues mentioned in other reviews.
The shared room was quiet, and the air conditioning was set at a comfortable temperature. Even with the bed curtain drawn, it did not feel stuffy. The bed was comfortable, and each one had its own reading light and power outlet.
What I was not satisfied with was the cleanliness around the bed. It was dirty enough to make me question whether it had been cleaned at all. The small shelf by the head of the bed was covered in dust when I wiped it with a tissue, and there were various kinds of hair next to the bed. Read moreThis is a guest house or hostel, so don't expect exquisite hotel services. For a reasonable price, Room 9 was a pretty decent place to stay for a solo lady traveler. Not so fancy. However, you have the basic things you need except for toothbrush but I don't mind coz it's a personal thing that every traveler must have handy. The room has a clean comfy bed, duvet and 2 pillows, strong wifi, cable TV, and hair dryer. The bathroom is spacious and clean. There are slippers and a bathroom door rug. The location is good. There's a bus stop right in front of the exit. Taipei bus station and Taipei Main station are about 6-8 minutes on foot. There's also a 711 next to the building. The staff are there 24/7 to assist and the best part is that they can speak GOOD ENGLISH! Smooth transaction. I just hope they add landmarks on their hotel descriptions to locate it easier, especially at night. Overall it was a good experience...
