Extremely disappointed, no concern for guest safety.
Our stay at the Hyatt Dar es Salaam was deeply disappointing, primarily due to the hotel’s complete lack of concern for guest safety.
On our first day, we specifically asked if it was safe to walk outside, and the staff simply assured us that it was. However, within ten meters of leaving the hotel, we were immediately harassed by a street artist who persistently pressured us to follow him to see his paintings. Even after firmly refusing, he approached us again later. During just 20 minutes in the city, we felt uncomfortably watched the entire time. We only saw two other lightskinned tourists the whole time, which made us feel even more exposed. The hotel provided no warning, no advice on how to handle harassment, and not even the number for the tourist police for emergency.
What disappointed us even more was how the hotel arranged our transfer to the ferry. The driver barely communicated with us, not even when people tried to open our moving taxi and grab our luggage. Instead of ensuring our safety, he dropped us off alone, where we were immediately surrounded by four aggressive men who forcefully took our bags and demanded money. We were terrified and overwhelmed, yet the hotel made no effort to prepare or protect us.
The Hyatt Dar es Salaam does not care about its guests’ safety once they step off the property. We felt completely abandoned and unprotected, thrown into dangerous situations with no guidance. This level of neglect is unacceptable for a hotel of this standard. We would never stay here again and strongly advise others to think twice before booking.
To make matters worse, the housekeeping staff was cleaning the rooms next door very loudly at 10:30 PM on both evenings of our stay, making it impossible to sleep. Additionally, hotel employees rang our doorbell at 11 PM, which was completely unacceptable and disruptive. This lack of organisation and respect for guests’ privacy further added to our...
Read moreReview: Hyatt Regency Dar es Salaam - Professional and Convenient Stopover||||Stay Duration: 1 Night||Rating: 4/5 (Satisfactory)||||The Hyatt Regency Dar es Salaam provided a highly satisfactory and efficient experience for my recent one-night stopover. The hotel successfully delivers on its promise of luxury and convenience, making it an excellent base for business travelers or short stays in the city.||||The Room:||My room was immaculate, spacious, and featured the comfortable, high-quality bedding signature of the Hyatt brand. Despite being a brief visit, the room felt like a true retreat. The complimentary amenities were appreciated, and the view, overlooking the harbor and city, was a definite highlight that made the short stay more memorable.||||Service & Efficiency:||Check-in and check-out were smooth, with staff demonstrating professional courtesy and efficiency, which is critical when timing is tight. I especially appreciated the quick service when requesting a late-night amenity. All interactions were handled promptly and politely.||||Location & Amenities:||The hotel's central location is highly convenient, offering easy access to the main city areas. While I did not have time to explore the full range of dining options, the lobby area and overall atmosphere were welcoming and well-maintained.||||Area for Minor Improvement:||While the overall experience was excellent, there was a slight delay during the initial check-in process which could be streamlined further, particularly for guests arriving late. This is a minor point, but improving lobby wait times would elevate the experience to truly outstanding.||||Overall:||This was a comfortable and highly dependable stay. The Hyatt Regency Dar es Salaam is a solid choice for anyone needing professional service and a restful night in the city. I would recommend it for both short business trips and...
Read moreHyatt Dar Es Salaam is not worth the money they are charging. The hotel is getting pretty tired based on room condition and service supplies. ||||The hallways to the rooms are quite dark and seem to require updating. Our room, generally was fine. However, the shower had orange algae stains on the grout due to a lack of consistent cleaning. The hot water pressure was non-existent. There’s a large tub in the bathroom but, based on the water pressure, it would take 40 minutes to fill it.||||The breakfast restaurant was very disappointing. There were loads of service staff but no service. It took a long time to get coffee and staff seemed to congregate by counters talking rather than serving. ||||Another issue is having to fill out an ‘egg request’ form. They provide a chit of paper with options printed on it and a pencil. This is NOT something that a guest wants or needs to do at breakfast. THATS WHY YOU HAVE SERVERS! ||||Regardless of filling out the form, eggs did not come. After 20+ minutes of waiting and my wife finishing her omelet, I had to re-apply for breakfast. The eggs were so underdone, they were still translucent in the centre. ||||The next day was a repeat of the first - even with a notation to the server of the experience the day before. ||||The pool area is not great. There are vast areas that have no outdoor furniture - just void space. Your initial impression is that you are in a restricted area undergoing redevelopment. When you finally see the pool area, it’s not super appealing. The loungers have dark grey plastic covered cushions that look dirty. They may not be dirty but that’s how they look - unappealing. There’s no music, potted plants - nothing appealing.||||Hyatt is delivering a sub par product for an above par price. I would check out the...
