Honestly one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in Zanzibar! Literally the hotel was so unpopular, I had to say “stone town house” just for bodas and cars to know where to take me! The room was $50 a night and I should’ve taken that money and used it on a hostel because that’s the kind of service I got! There were no towels and after an HOUR of my kid standing in the shower, they finally brought a small hand towel with literal bleach stains on it and when I asked for a second one, he said it’d be there in two minutes, Lo and behold an hour after, as me and my kid are leaving for the night, he brings me a frayed white face towel The bed (we shared a double) was creaky, uncomfortable and painful, we had to move a mattress to the floor just to have somewhere stable to put it, and their AC remote was not working and the only blanket we received was a thin white one (with cigarette burns and mysterious stains) to cover a grown woman and 14 year old child in, in a freezing cold room and when I called the receptionist and went downstairs, there was no one there (11pm) And it’s SOP (standard operating procedure) for a restaurant to serve breakfast from 6-10, and as they didn’t specify when I paid for my room, I assumed the norm, imagine my surprise when I go downstairs at 7:30 with a hungry teen and find that they start at 8:00! With no formal notice as well, And in spite of booking 48 hours in advance, we still got a room on the top floor and had to take way too many flights of stairs The room and living conditions honestly aren’t worth the trouble, plus you’ll have a horrible time finding a taxi that has a clue of where to go
Final little tidbit: carry your own condiments because this place has to be asked for the basics like salt and pepper when you’re provided a meal (that you paid money for) how is one to have eggs without salt and pepper? And how is one to have chai without milk and they gave us coffee creamer instead and when I voiced my concerns to the receptionist as this place has no management staff, all I got was a...
Read moreI don’t want even to put one star if there’s less than that I will give it less , I’m so disappointed if it’s like the owner said it’s just a gust house why you write it is a hotel?!
Even though it’s a guest house nothing here looks right everything looks disgusting and old and needs to be cleaned and fixed. The ppl who are working here don’t understand English so you have to explain by acting and by showing pictures. Yesterday it was a rainy day and the water coming through the ceiling and make everything wet and smells bad . It’s my last days in Zanzibar and it’s a high season here so it’s hard to find a perfect place to stay in. I’m disappointed that my vacation in Tanzania ends just like that . I really hope that I could say something positive about the place but I couldn’t find...
Read moreIt’s a shame that this hotel has been left to run down. The location and design of this previously housed hotel are brilliant, but it has now been left without proper renovation.
Curtains and windows are broken, amenities are basic or non-existent, there is no elevator, sockets are broken, and there are humidity stains and peeling paint. The lobby feels more like a storage space.
On the positive side, the rooms are spacious and suitable for groups, the bed is comfortable, the AC works perfectly, and the bathroom is clean. But that’s not enough for the amount we paid
The staff also need serious professional training in check-in procedures, English proficiency, and...
