El Barrio

What stood out to me about this hotel was the exceptional customer service of the staff. There were welcome drinks at check in and since we were early for checking in, they held our bags. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. Good blackout curtains. The entrance to the bedrooms face the outside so you have to be wary at night to make sure you don't let bugs in.

Pros: Daily refills of water bottles, coke products, Thai packaged snacks, and afternoon cookies Good location. 10 min to a night market South. 10 min to the Sunday walking street. 20 min to the Night Bazzar Good shower temperature and pressure 24 hour security guard

Cons: The pool is only in the sun for a small portion of the day so it is ICE cold! The breakfast is terrible. Everything on the order menu was bad. At one point, the wontons in our soup was completely undercooked. The selection offered at the breakfast was also small. There's bread, yogurt, cereal, congee, salad, one Thai dish that changes daily, 3 fruits, and 2 dessert selections. The WiFi is really slow and spotty The short stories that come with the free afternoon snacks are really dark...

During our stay, I had a problem with my reservation at another Thailand hotel. I used their office phone (as well as the front staff's personal phone) on multiple occasions. The staff went out of their way to help translate and attempt to solve my problem. I appreciated their generosity! Overall, the stay was comfortable and we had a...

El Barrio Lanna is far more beautiful than the pictures show! We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The pool is large, clean and great for lounging, especially in the early afternoon, when the water is warmest. We stayed here for one night prior to and one night following our Mae Hong Son motorbike loop, and it was conveniently located for visiting bike rental shops (7 min walk), visiting the night market (20 min walk), and a variety of restaurants.

One our first night, we booked 2 Lanna Standard Rooms and 1 Lanna Family Room; one our second night, we booked 4 Lanna Standard Rooms. The standard rooms were spacious, with among the most comfortable beds we had throughout our trip. The family room felt a little more cramped, but did have the addition of a soaking tub in the bathroom.

We left the majority of our luggage at the hotel during the motorbike loop for a small fee (150 THB per bag), and they were safely returned to our rooms when we checked back in.

Breakfast was available for a fee (150 THB), although hours were relatively limited. They were able to fill our water bottles as well before we headed out.

We arranged transportation from the airport with the hotel. I would say that this was unnecessary, as Chiang Mai airport is very small and you are easily able to call a grab.

There are a good amount of biting insects/mosquitos near the pool, and one of our bedrooms (202) had an...

We really enjoyed our stay at El Barrio Lanna from start to finish. The staff were friendly and welcoming, quick to rush us out of the rain when we arrived and providing towels to dry off (it was torrential!). Our room was lovely and well equipped, especially considering the price. The pool was nice although is virtually always in shade because of its placement (and the sun beds are a bit cramped). The entrance way is beautifully decorated will lots of plants and during the day/evening they have relaxing music playing as you walk down. The location is good, a few minutes from the centre of the old town but tucked down a quiet soi (except around school pick up/drop off time). The only negative was that the cleaner left the balcony door open meaning we had quite a few mosquitos in our room on the last day. Otherwise, I couldn't fault the hotel and will definitely stay again, should I come back to Chiang Mai in the future.

Stayed 5 nights. Lovely hotel. Very clean and far enough away from the centre of Chiang Mai to be tranquil yet is inside the inner city walls and not far to walk to the many restaurants and bars this city has to offer in it's old town district. Our room had the most comfortable bed ever, was spacious and had a balcony overlooking the small pool. Breakfast was lovely. Plenty of choice. Tea, coffee, juice, water and biscuits out in the pool area for most of the day for hotel guests to help themselves to. In addition to the tea/coffee facilities in the room. That was a nice touch. Also a nice touch was the fact that the water provided in the room was in glass bottles...less plastic waste. Would recommend this hotel. I would definitely stop at this hotel again if I manage to return to Chiang Mai at some point in the future.

Great hotel at an affordable price. Loved the feeling of this place as it felt like you were living in the neighborhood. Quick way to the main area of Chiang Mai. We stayed 3 nights with the standard room with balcony. Super peaceful and quiet. Next door is an elementary school so during weekdays drop off (7am ish) and pick up time (3-5pm ish) it can get a bit hectic going in and out of the hotel. The front entrance of the hotel is a bit small so you can totally miss it if you aren’t looking. There’s usually one bellhop person to take your bags. Very organized and Professional staff. We had a jewelry pick up and the front desk personnel handled it and we were able to retrieve it with no trouble. There is a small breakfast buffet option (I believe it was 150 bahts if your stay doesn’t include breakfast).
