Along with those who cried out for renovation, I experienced a lobby I would never have imagined as a realistic possibility. Entering the hotel for the first time in years, the scene was both disorienting and impressive. Much work remains to be done elsewhere but if the standard is maintained and teething problems addressed it seems likely that the Grace could attract a proportion of travellers who would not normally consider staying here.||||The only rooms available as a result of major renovation were in building C. The choice of rooms for solo traveller was limited to Economy or Deluxe. The Economy rooms on the upper floors have been commented on countless times. These are the rooms that are eliciting the highly critical reviews. They have very dated decor. Even at the low price of 1200 baht, not unreasonable, they do not merit recommendation. The basics, air conditioning and fridge function but the poorly maintained furnishings, the slapdash attempts at refreshening, and the dim lighting adds up to a depressing experience. They’re only acceptable for those on a shoestring budget.||||The recently renovated Deluxe rooms although not 5 star deluxe are a big step up from Economy. They provide a much more pleasant experience. The cost is a reasonable 1800 baht per night. The extra cost gives you higher quality furnishings, a small microwave oven in addition to a fridge and kettle, and a larger television which allows access to Netflix and Youtube channels. Note that at check-in the refundable deposit for the key card is 1000 baht, cash only.||||During my stay, there was no air conditioning in the passage outside the rooms. That meant my room would become uncomfortably hot more quickly without the room air conditioning switched on, which had to be turned on to a noisy maximum more frequently.||||The options for breakfast were very limited, and the price has gone up significantly. BREAKFAST SPECIAL. 350 THB/SET. (1)COFFEE, TEA, OR FRESH MILK. (2)ORANGE JUICE. (3)FRIED EGGS, BOILED EGGS, OMELETTE OR SCRAMBLED EGGS. (4)TOAST. ARABIC BREAD OR CROISSANTS.||(OPEN 07.00 - 11.30). ||||The hotel management need to provide Do Not Disturb door hangers for guests. On a number of occasions I’ve had cleaners enter my room in the morning before I had time to acknowledge a knock on the door. ||||Anyone considering staying in this hotel should bear in mind that it is undergoing major renovation. As a result you can expect much disruption relating to amenities and services for some time to come. Reassuringly, for loyal customers, my impression after a short stay is that the new Grace is still attracting the same type of guests as before. I did not see many families or female tourists. Guests appear to be predominantly Middle Eastern, Indian, Pakistani. ||||Although you can still expect to see a few amenable sex workers milling around after sunset, it is so low-key you’d hesitate to even call it passive solicitation. The discontented chaste brigade and the fuming tight-fisted strops so inclined to writing one-star reviews should have read a few reviews before check-in, in order to avoid disappointment.||||LIKES: Good location for nightlife, shopping, restaurants, public transport. New front desk staff. Honest and friendly room service staff. ||||DISLIKES: Occasionally, a cockroach may find a way...
Read more"I had a very disappointing experience at this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone.
First of all, the customer service was extremely poor. There were significant delays in the paperwork process, and instead of focusing on one guest at a time, the staff kept jumping between customers, which made the check-in process chaotic and frustrating. Once they finally completed my paperwork, they failed to provide any proper guidance on where my room was located. I had to follow other guests to the lift, only to realize that it only went up to the 5th floor, while my room was on the 12th floor. When I returned to the reception to ask for directions, the receptionist rudely responded in a high tone, telling me that she had already informed me and that my room was in another building. Normally, hotels provide proper orientation, showing guests their room, explaining where the restaurant is, and informing them about breakfast times – none of this was done here.
To make matters worse, the hotel environment was very unpleasant. People were smoking everywhere, including in the lobby, creating a strong odor throughout the premises. The building was under renovation, with exposed wires, excessive noise, and a terrible smell from the carpets.
On top of that, I was given the wrong room. I had booked a room with a double bed but was instead provided with two single beds. When I raised the issue with the reception, they refused to take responsibility and asked me to contact the booking agent. I explained that the agent was just a middleman and that the hotel should honor the booking details, but they were unhelpful and dismissive.
When I requested to speak to the manager, a staff member claimed to be the manager but was very rude and even threatened to stop talking to me before completely ignoring my concerns. This level of unprofessionalism was shocking.
Ultimately, I had to leave the hotel, despite having paid nearly $300 for two nights. I had no choice but to find another place to stay that night, as I couldn't get any assistance or solutions from the staff.
Overall, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. The service was unprofessional, the staff were rude, and the entire experience was frustrating from start to finish. I strongly advise others to avoid this hotel...
Read more1st off... there was nothing “grace” or “graceful” about this hotel... By the looks of it, ‘‘twas first established sometime during the 1960s given the shabby exterior and extremely tired interior . On first glance ... The lobby appears grand ... until your senses kick in ... the smell is dank cigarettes, strong Arabic colognes, body odour and level 1 for some reason consistently smelt like rotting ham (so strange) the decor looks like something straight out of a Thai Adams family and the shady characters coming in and out also fit the bill. The corridor to our hotel had a bowing ceiling, ripped carpet of three different colour choices to choose from and also a Mosque in the corridor if you are that way inclined .The room itself was fine, renovated clean enough (despite the shower being blocked constantly and the grout looking nasty AF) I didn’t unpack any o my items however as it was not clean to a standard I believe would’ve been in anyway hygienic. Not bad for the price paid HOWEVER the hotel itself was shadier than Mr Slim himself. As a white Australian female, I did not feel comfortable walking around this hotel on my own and soon discovered I had good reason for that... upon looking to see what the “Turkish massage” was downstairs we quickly discovered that it was a brothel. I didn’t bother checking out the pool... was told it was in a separate building and given the state of the rest of the hotel and the rub and tugs going on downstairs the only thing the pool would’ve been able to offer me is hepatitis a, b & c Given the state of the rest of the place and the other guests staying...Nevertheless, it was certainly one of kind ... just one kind that I would happily NEVER stay at again. Just to add ALL STAFF were incredibly rude, except for one Thai lady who wears contacts who was helpful when I needed assistance- but then again who could be happy working in what could only be compared to something you would see on “Hotels from Hell” If your a female planning on staying here I have one word for you... R U N
IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE- Rooms were cleaned to a good standard daily so shout out to the cleaners who I’m sure working in this hotel would be SERIOUSLY underpaid. Thankyou for making our stay remotely bearable, u...
