This hotel is right across the Surasak BTS station, and you can easily reach great places with that line, such as the MBK and Central World Shopping centre and more. The rooms do have a good size and the beds were really spacious and comfortable. The view, of course, is better the higher up you are, but at night it’s truly amazing to just look outside! (For the best view just check out the bar at the top!) In our room, the toilet and the bathroom were separate, which was really practical. There were two sinks – one in the toilet and one in the main bathroom. A free standing bathtub with a view and a shower, which I just loved! There was enough room for our clothes for the weekend and there was a small minibar as well. The only negative thing which I can say about this room were the corners of the carpet as they really could have been way cleaner. Overall, there were some areas which would need some TLC. The lobby is big, and rather simply in its design. The lifts were sometimes a bit slow for my parents, but I didn’t mind the speed, though it can take a bit to reach the top during busy times, such as breakfast. The hotel offers a Spa and a Gym, which looked clean and well maintained. I really liked the outdoor pool area, though. There were plenty of seats, the view over Bangkok was great, the pool had a good size and it was just great to sit there and enjoy some shade and a bit of wind. Breakfast was overall good, but don’t expect a continental one. It’s more catered to the business clients which seem to frequent this hotel a lot. There is plenty to eat and most looked really good.

Awful experience! DO NOT STAY HERE. SERIOUSLY! The guest service manager, Salakjit Cokhong (Joy), used foul language back at me after I used it in frustration (in a manner not directly to her or the company. I’m sure you’ll understand the frustration in my review) after saying “I will not refund you, I insist”, which in hindsight is terrible English. It just isn’t used that way. The hotel was dirty upon examinations. They offered a deep clean and also were very insistent on not giving me a refund for my stay. After I entered the room, there was dust, dirt and old food in lots of places including between the sofa, under the area at the end of the bed, behind the TV etc. They then offered me a deep clean, which after they had finished, invited me to inspect the room. Upon inspecting the room, the same areas were dirty. Joy had nothing to say after that and had no option but to give me a refund. This hotel is old, outdated and I will never ever stay here again. I do not recommend it. this review, and the tone of which is written in does not contain anger, but I highly highly HIGHLY recommend you not to stay here again. This hotel honesty does not deserve the rating that it has. They will try to offer you an upgrade when you check in, but trust me, it really isn’t worth it. If you’re looking for a cute or romantic getaway, this will disappoint. When I have the time, I will be making a formal complaint to the hotel group regarding this Guest Service Manager, Salakjit Cokhong (Joy), who really took the joy out of this hotel. Pathetic. Good luck to them.

The only redeeming thing we could comment about Mode Sathorn is its excellent location, which is close to many good cafes, bars, and being right in front of Surasak BTS station. The hotel looks like it is favoured by mostly Europeans. Unfortunately, the room we got looked clearly unused for some time because the surfaces were dusty, including the toilet too. We had to do a literally wipe down ourselves. The toilet door handles were hanging on a thread and actually came loose. Best part is that the room had a very old electric kettle that caught fire! Thank goodness we managed to blow out the flame like it was some birthday cake , if not, we could not imagine the damage! And when we reported the matter, the service recovery was zero, with just a verbal apology. No room upgrades, no free breakfast. NOTHING at all to compensate for all the unpleasantness. Only on our very last night after complaining about the other room dilapidations that their hotel staff offered a room upgrade. By the way, the room upgrade offered wasn't even their best. By then, we were too tired to pack and unpack again to take on their upgrade and had to negotiate for a very late checkout instead. Very very disappointing. Biggest regret was not requesting a room change from the beginning or booking another hotel.

This is our 3rd time in this hotel, since my son love its location ( Near bts and can see bts from window). Unfortunately this time I made the mistake and forgot my galaxy ear buds on the night table, since we were in a hurry. After realising my mistake, i immediately called the hotel and asked them if the housekeeper found it . The reception checked and said housekeeper did not find anything.

I explained on the phone, that even though its not very very expensive, this air bud means a lot to me, and that it is important for me to find it . I asked if in the morning when the housekeeper is doing the room, if she could recheck again . She said housekeeper cannot do it, since another guest has checked in . And i need to wait until the 17th . I explained my fear that on the 17th it might be already taken eventually, if they could just ask the guests or let the housekeeper look again. I was not asking to go through their guests luggage or so.

The reception said. She will ask the housekeeper and call me back the next day. 2 days passed and no one called me back.

Today i called again, and again, same answer, only no we cannot disturb the guest ( i understand this point, but really, there are nice ways to ask the guests or to find a solution ) , and the fact that housekeeper is cleaning, why cant she just have a look under the bed or nearby ?? They gave no explanation, only repeating the same sentence. No we cannot .

To be honest, I feel like once i check out i am no longer important. After service is zero .

Even its my fault that i forgot my air buds, it is really not that hard to assist to make the client, in this case me, feel understood and helped.

I explained many times, i can buy new air buds, but this one was a special gift from someone important, so buying a new one would have not the same meaning . But the hotel seems not interested in all.

Really disappointed.

So for all who are planning to stay, dont forget anything. Because once you forget, you will not get any assistance. Because when you checked out, you are not...

We pre-booked with our travel agent to stay here twice, once when we arrived and then when we came back. There are 3 things which other travellers should be aware of:

  1. Location. It's next to a sky train station so that's great but to get to the tourist areas you'll need to change to the metro. If I was staying in Bangkok again as a tourist I'd want to stay closer to Chinatown or nearer the centre. I didn't find the local area particularly inspring or easy to get around.
  2. Rooms. The rooms are pleasant enough although typically bland. The odd thing is the light switches. There's a console by the bed that creates a range of settings. It's completely unecessary as all you want is to control the bedroom lights and bathroom lights independently. If you get up in the middle of the night it's like playing jeopardy as to what lights you're switiching on and whether you'll wake your partner up. Totally unnecessary and frustrating.
  3. Check out process. This happened on both occassions the last one really disappointing and quite upsetting. We needed to leave at 4.30am to catch a flight and said on check in that we needed to do this. When we checked out at 4.30am we were told that we couldn't leave without a member of staff checking if we had taken anything from the fridge. The fridge contained 2 x cokes and 2 x sprites. I explained we didn't get up early just so they could check our room and that I wanted to leave. While this only took 5 mins, it was time I didn't calculate in and was frustrated by it. I've never come across this process in any other hotel I've ever stayed in and take a position of distrust. Other hotels either take me at my word when I say I haven't taken anything or they take my credit card for additional expenses (which this hotel had as well) or they don't have a mini bar and use room service. For the sake of up to 4 cans this felt petty, unnecessary and left us feeling like we are theieves. I will never stay here again based on this...
