Hilton should be ashamed to have their name on this property.
We are Honors Diamond members and stay in several dozen Hilton properties every year. This is hands down the absolute worst Hilton branded property I have ever had the misfortune of staying in. It’s almost painful to write about how utterly bad this hotel is. So many problems and shortcomings at this hotel, where do I begin?
This place is in desperate need of some renovation; it feels like a cheap hotel with decor straight from 1985. It’s just drab, sad and depressing. I have no idea how this place is listed as a 4-star hotel. Whoever thought so is delusional.
First impression upon arrival was getting harassed by an Indian tailor while bringing our luggage in from the parking lot. The guy doesn’t understand “no thank you.” He nagged us every time entering and exiting the property. Not a good look, Hilton.
We booked using the Hilton app, but they didn’t have it in their reservation system. The room rate quoted at the desk was pricier than the rate on the Hilton app so we rebooked using the app. At over 3,000 THB Net, this is the absolute worst value ever. A hotel in this condition is a 1,200 baht at best. There are dozens of hotels at the 3k baht price range that are truly 4-star properties. Don’t be fooled, this place is 2-stars. The Holiday Inn across the street is far superior at the same price point.
Our room was on the 10th floor, and as soon as we exited the elevator the odor of mold and mildew was alarming. It smelled like when you forgot to unload your clothes washer for 2 days.
The room was underwhelming at best. Bath towels seem to be several years old, worn, frayed and thin. Very basic bathroom amenities. Lighting in the room is woefully inadequate, no overhead lights at all in the main room. The only main room lights are the hallway entrance, a desk lamp and bed headboard. The Wi-Fi is a consumer level router placed on the desk and is quite weak. The signal dropped off regularly, which quickly became annoying. And the TV is comically tiny. No ice in the refrigerator and no ice machines anywhere. No microwave oven. These are basic amenities that even the cheapest hotels usually have available for guests. But not here.
Went down for a swim, but the pool looked to be in need of some maintenance, so we decided to forego it.
On a good note, the staff members are nice and did their best to make our stay pleasant but they seem somewhat defeated, like they’re unwilling participants in a con. The location is pretty decent. There are places nearby to shop, get a foot massage, eat some good Thai or Italian food and there’s Sala Daeng BTS station 10 minute walk, also Oriental pier 10 minute walk.
Overall, this was a truly disappointing experience and it’s unworthy of the Hilton brand. Whoever signed off on this from corporate completely failed and ought to be reassigned to...
Read moreThis is a challenging review to write. I am a longtime Hilton Honors member and always want to champion any Hilton property. And I don't want to be too harsh in my feedback as perhaps the HGI Silom is still making the transition from Novotel to being a Hilton brand...but...right from the start, everything seemed off - there was no welcome, I stood around for several minutes before even being acknowledged (and checkout which was a mad house, was even worse). There was no mention of HH, no thank you for your loyalty, no charming interaction with any staff that others have mentioned in previous reviews.||The room was initially underwhelming but perhaps that was because of the lack of good welcome - plain white walls, no art at all (and I realize this may be standard for HGI's in Asia) but over the course of three days it did grow on me. It was clean, comfortable and quiet and that's the most important thing. Given previous comments here, I was expecting the hardware of this hotel to be in bad shape and it wasn't, halls and rooms all looked perfectly acceptable.||Dining was of course a step up from HGI's in the US/West with an adequate/ok buffet but it was very understaffed and as a consequence, dishes and drinks ran out and were not refilled, food would fall on the floor and no one cleaned it up, the egg station maker was not equipped to do his job well. On my third morning (Monday) there did appear to be a manager on hand with a full staff of 4 others so perhaps it was just the weekend that was so not up to standard. 2 out of the three mornings there was no one to even check you in and take your room number.||The biggest disappointment was the pool and pool area - much smaller than photos make it out to be, the water was not clear and stung the eyes, again, no charm - a handful of sad looking plants scattered around. I know they have plans to renovate this area which will be interesting to see what happens as you can't make the pool bigger but I think the owners/managers could be very creative in building a terraced area perhaps with a raised smaller pool and fill the place up with plants. Old photos of Novotel show a pool area that was much more inviting with significant greenery.||I've stayed at all the Hiltons (other than the Waldorf over the past few years) and I wanted to start checking out the new additions to the Hilton family in Bangkok, but this is not one I'll be returning to any time soon. For sure it is the cheapest Hilton property in the city and it is clean, quiet, and safe but with no character and no charm. If you need a Hilton property in Silom, it will do but there are certainly others that are more affordable with much more character. I hope with the coming renovations and additional buy in to Hilton-esque management there will be...
Read moreWoken up every morning at 9.00am with knock on door from housekeeping to clean room or ask for any laundry, even when there are signs for the door which request room clean, these are ignored. Complained to front desk and they said it will now be cleaned at 11am so what is the point of the 'clean my room' signs. Only a cooler fridge is in the room for in room minibar purposes (which cannot chill as it is only min. of 5 degrees) and no actual fridge to keep your own milk or other food stuffs. Lack of storage areas in the room Erratic housekeeping, some days towels are replaced, oftentimes, 1 towel only. Sink in bathroom doesnt plug, told front desk, they sent maintenance man up, still not fixed Wished to shorten stay but no refunds at all Many on front desk and Concierge cannot understand or speak English Qantas hotels should disendorse this hotel, has not been a pleasurable stay...................... Nine days in and yet another room change...this is my 3rd so far. Called front desk at 3.30pm and they offered a room on the 17th floor. Looked at it and said that I was promised a room yesterday on my same floor...level 20. They then said they would give me the promised room on level 20 but it will take another 40 mins due to housekeeping still cleaning it. 90 minutes later, they told me it was ready. Arrive in the new room on the 20th floor and once again, no plug for the sink in the bathroom. I need it for shaving in the mornings. The Manager said that she could give me another room on a different level with a plug in the sinl....I said NO...that would make it the 4th room change. She called the maintenance man up and he installed a make good plug. I then told the Manager that there was a pungent odour of cigarette smoke in the room which she seemed to verify. She said there cant be cigarette smells, these are non smoking rooms. Advised her that some people dont follow the rules. She got some deoderisers sent up and placed in the room. Came back from dinner tonight and all lift/entry access cards had been deactivated. Had to get front desk to reactivate them - hopeless!!! Getting ready for bed, no hand towels in the bathroom or toothbrushes. Also, no bath robes in the cupboards.
Final day here after 18 days and checking out early. Must say that Concierge and housekeeping have been very nice friendly people..
Got used to this hotel but location has not been ideal for proximity to good restaurants. 10 minute walk to BTS or half hour brisk walk to Sala Deong. It is what it is, its ok but its not a 4 star hotel,...
