My friends and I visited Bangkok and had a four-night stay in Monomer hostel. Generally speaking, our experience here was just acceptable at most.
The staff weren't as welcoming and helpful as I'd expected. We arrived at 1:55pm and they told us to wait until 2pm because it's their official check-in time. In fact, we were kept waiting about 20 minutes without anyone telling us what was happening. When we asked one of the staff, she was quite reluctant to answer and just told us to wait. After 20 minutes, she told us to follow her to their second building nearby as our rooms had been set in there. That sure wasn't a good first impression as I think they should have been more welcoming and told us the reason why we had to wait right from the start.
We booked 2 double rooms with private bathrooms, and they were both clean and cozy. The room was cleaned everyday, so we always felt comfortable when we came back at night. The only problem was that they were NOT SOUNDPROOF at all. It was pretty hard for us to get to sleep bacause of all the door-slamming noise coming from other rooms. Sometimes we could even hear people talking in the room next to ours. That made me feel as if my privacy was violated.
The best thing about this hostel was that it's located in the central area of Bangkok and right next to a BTS skytrain station, which means it's pretry easy for you to get to other parts of the city. Moreover, there are several famous shopping centers within walking distance such as Siam Discovery, Siam Center, Siam Paragon, Centralworld, MBK, BigC, etc. There are also many street food stalls nearby, most of which can be found in Alley Phetchaburi 5 and 10.
One more good thing about this hostel is that they can keep luggage for you after you have checked out but have a lot of time to wander around before leaving the city.
To sum up, with such a reasonable price, this hostel is worth staying in if you are not a fussy traveler who concerns a lot about privacy or...
Read moreIt started out as simple plan to go Cirebon, but it was so boring that my friends and I started planning to go to Yogakarta. So we saved a couple of bucks for our trip. From the math we started to save a lot more than we planned.
So from Yogakarta it went to Bali.. And from Bali it went to Komodo Island... This went on for a year and in this period 2 of my friends got engaged and 1 had broken up with his girlfriend.
The trip started to take a down fall..... HOWEVER
When I saw an add online for a great hostel somewhere in Bangkok which was cheap and a great location, I started to get excited and told everybody about the plan to take it to Bangkok..
And so we planned and calculated and it's in our budget limit.. Soooo long story short, we got our tickets for Bangkok and booked a room from our group!!
Unfortunately it was overbooked... So we found Monomer Hostel as a substitute, which was great! Excellent customer service, cute atmosphere and all the things needed for a backpack travelers could want.. It wasn't the hostel that made me want to go to Bangkok, but the experience was unbelievable that I'll return to stay here again... When I saved another years worth of saving...
Read moreWe booked with monomer hostel, and it was decent.
Pros: The room was clean, bathrooms were pretty clean, and staff was nice. We made delicious waffles using the batter and bananas provided! 5-10 min walk to BTS train stations, so it's pretty easy to get to.
Cons: When we booked a single private room the pictures made it seem more spacious and comfortable than it was. We ended up getting a pretty small room, where the bed was on a platform above the sofa (use a ladder to get to the bed). There was nothing to do in the room.
