The first thing that I noticed when entering this modern and excellently maintained place was the scent, it just smells so nicely, with a gentle perfume sprinkled in many public areas. The room that I took (deluxe private room with bathroom) was sparkling clean - and nicely smelling too - much like the rest of the building. Everything was in perfect condition as if it were built just recently.
The heating of the water in the shower could be improved to higher capacity heaters (the water was above warm but not so hot), but other than that I don't recall maintenance or technical issues. The breakfast, albeit on the modest side, was tasty and clean, with fresh ingredients and consistent quality. The tables in the seating area had this weird quality that whenever I had coffee, something fell and caused some of the coffee to spill, maybe the legs of the tables are not designed well. But really this is just trying to dig some minor problems. Another tiny problem was that the drainage canal near the public toilets on the ground floor is easy to trip on, happened to me twice.
But really, if you're a couple and looking for a pleasant and extremely clean place to stay, not too far from Khaosan and the river, then this will be an excellent option at this price level which is very affordable. You will not regret picking it, and it may be one of the nicest places you've stayed in your tour.
However: for solo travelers / backpackers, unfortunately I have a significant difficulty recommending this place in the same way - for me the vibe was too "sterile", with all kinds of strict rules that have in fact made several guests (not just me) feel uncomfortable and misinformed, in particular the fact that no visitors are allowed in the premises past the reception desk - even though this was not stated clearly at all when I booked the place.
I would say, if there are certain strict policies for whatever reasons (such as - no external visitors allowed, only one dish per person in breakfast, no option to shower anywhere after checkout time - even for a fee, scary price list for extra laundry of the bed sheets and covers, etc.), then it would just be fair to state all of this clearly before confirming the booking, as part of well-communicated "house rules", and thus to let people make an informed decision about their booking. Otherwise, meeting those rules for the first time only after you're already there, just causes unnecessary frustration and negatively affects the stay for some of the guests, because at that point it is impractical to do anything but to accept these rules.
Therefore it is with a heavy heart that I give this place only 3 stars, at least until those house rules become communicated clearly before the booking. If I were a couple, I would surely give the hotel 4-5 stars (half a star off is because of the location, that is actually a quarter of an hour walk from Khaosan), so I'm only trying to reflect an aspect that is applicable to certain travelers. Again I repeat that it's the cleanest and one of the best maintained places that I stayed at in this category of hostels during my trip -- but even with the understanding that the rules have reasonings, I cannot ignore the fact that being a solo traveler, I felt very surprised to learn about these rules only at arrival, and I am pretty sure that other solo guests shared similar feeling - to the extent that maybe I would skip this place and wouldn't stay here if I had known.
I will add that the staff was very helpful, informative and kind, and went an extra mile to assist and explain -- within the boundaries of the house rules and policies.
To summarize: excellent building, maintenance and hygiene, 4.5 stars if you're a couple, but carefully consider if the rules fit you if you're solo...
Read moreDecided to stay here for our lastnight because it was cheap and we wanted to experience Khaosan before leaving. This was our 1st taste of a "hostel" and we enjoyed it. Its tucked away from the main road, about 5 minute walk. Nice and quiet. Our room we got was the very 1st room on the left when passing the check in area. We only needed a place to relax for a few hours before heading out so this was good enough. Double bunk bed with a couple fans. Community shower was surprisingly clean. They even supply small bottles of body wash. There are plenty seats in the front area to hang out and chill. Theres even a flat screen television with loads of DVDs to choose from if you would like to watch a movie. Beer and drinks were readily available., and at good/average prices. It beats having to walk 5-10 minutes just to get a beer. No WIFI in our room, but it is available in the front area. Its about 10-15 minutes to Khaosan Road. The best part of the experience was the manager. She is the sweetest, most kind person in the world. I wish I had a business so that I could hire her. She is truely a delight. She made phones calls for me since I do not speak Thai. She waited around for a suit that was being delivered to me, and when I had a problem with the suit, she called that company back to explain my gripe. She was the most helpful, caring person I have ever met. I regret forgetting her name, but she is...
Read moreBrilliant hotel and vibe. The hotel is really clean and modern. There is the spacious main lobby where people chill out with free coffee, snacks, and a book case with over a hundred books. Also 2 computers with internet and a tv with Netflix. It’s really unique for Bangkok as stayed in over 30 hotels here and haven’t seen these extra facilities outside the hotel room.
The hotel room has great facilities with a huge tv, really comfy bed, multi option air conditioning and a hot shower. I plug my Netflix stick into the tv to watch and it works perfect and fast being high quality without any stoppages. Most other hotels in Thailand the wi fi cuts off so this is another great positive. There’s also an elevator to each floor which helps with baggage. The hotel isn’t too busy as just restarted after 2.5 years closed due to covid. The staff are very helpful, friendly helpful and down to earth while also speaking good English. They also organise transport to the airport which is half the price than when I got a taxi before.
The hotel is also 10 minutes walk from Khao San so close enough while being in a quiet location if staying in for the night.
I would highly recommend the hotel and wish the manager Game and his staff the best of success...
