This is a small street restaurant attended by its own chef and family. The kitchen is outside so you can see where all the magic happens. Also you can see all the fresh ingredients used by Mr Lek, the chef. Besides being the chef, Mr Lek is also an amazing host and will make sure you are absolutely enjoying your food, recommending this sauce or this other. There are plenty of options to choose from the menu and every single one will be prepared by Mr Lek in the same instant with the effectiveness and graciousness of an experienced chef that really knows what he's doing and most importantly how Thai flavours works. If you don't like something in the menu or if you would like to personalice your dish, then just tell Mr Lek and he will make it happen. The price is just as great as the food and the quality is by far much better than the price you pay for. I ate in a lot of places in Bangkok and this place served the best food I tried for the money I paid. Actually, it was so good that I kept going for 4 days in a row! This place is a real hidden jewel that I was very lucky to...
Read moreI had a very disappointing experience here. They claim to accept cards, but in reality, they don’t. I initially planned to eat at Try Me Thai Restaurant, but since they also didn’t accept cards, I walked a bit further and found this small, not-so-clean place.
Before ordering, I specifically asked if they accepted card payments. The lady said yes. But when it was time to pay, she suddenly said their machine wasn’t working and insisted I withdraw cash instead. Since it was my last night and I was heading to the airport at midnight, I really didn’t want to withdraw more cash. In the end, I had to pay an extra 220 baht just to withdraw money and settle the bill.
On top of that, the food wasn’t good—both the Khao Soi and crab dish tasted bad, and I couldn’t finish them.
Another thing I noticed: as a Southeast Asian, I didn’t feel welcome. They seemed friendlier towards white foreigners. I was made to move from a decent table to a wobbly table at the back, even though there were plenty of available seats. It felt disrespectful and unfair.
I wouldn’t recommend this...
Read moreExtremely nice and attentive family whose English is quite good. Authentic Thai food is an endangered species in Thailand, and Jok Pochama is one of the very few places I personally would classify as having that authentic Thai taste, but only if you dine early in the day when they are slow. If you go when they are busy the food quality declines sharply. Don’t even eat there when you need to wait for a table. In that case everything is undercooked, vegetables are huge chunks which are not finely cut as they should be. Food is terrible on sunday nights. Here you can enjoy seafood and vegetarian dishes which are difficult to find elsewhere in this city of pork, beef and chicken. I’ve often opted to sit inside to avoid the cigarette smoke from people who stand around on the street lighting one cigarette...
