I stayed at JW Marriott Ankara which I found to be a proper luxury hotel on par with the brand and I can recommend it.
As Marriott Ambassador Elite guest, I was proactively upgraded to a junior suite a day before arrival. The living room was not completely distinct from the bedroom; there were two TVs in the room, one facing the bed and one facing the sofa so it provided some separation but otherwise the room was open. Overall everything was in good condition but the style was a bit aging. The bathroom seemed to have been renovated more recently, it was very spacious and looked more modern so it was the strong point of the room in my opinion. That said, the water temperature in the shower was not always stable and the soundproofing in the room could have been better, I could easily hear noise from the hallway.
The executive lounge only opened at 3:30pm daily which prevented guests from having a different place to work during the day besides their own room. As far as I am concerned, the value of a lounge is not simply happy hour but it’s about more personal service than from reception downstairs, so it was partially missing.
Because of the late opening of the lounge, breakfast was only in the restaurant (6:30-11am) where the spread was nice, food quality was good, and they had a daily rotation of some hot dishes to provide variety.
Back to the lounge, the venue on the 22nd floor was attractive and had several sections, some more suitable for dining and others more suitable for lounging. Hors d’oeuvres were offered 5:30-7:30pm and alcoholic beverages 5:30pm-midnight. Unfortunately there were no cocktails but the food was good quality and enough to make it a meal with a daily rotation (similar to what they did for breakfast), including some regional specialties such as a dish from Uzbekistan one evening which I thought was interesting.
Service from the duty manager, the guest relations manager, and other staff in the business center was excellent especially since I had several special requests during my stay. A manager even offered his mobile phone number and I could call him if I needed someone to translate should I run into problems (which I did). He was not even on his work shift at the time I called but he was happy to help which I appreciated. The one aspect which was not as impressive service-wise was in the restaurant during breakfast. The attendants at the entrance do not lead guests to a table, guests just sat where they wanted so the consequence was that there was no server assigned. On several mornings I just sat there for over 10 minutes without anybody coming to ask me if I wanted a drink which was odd given the large number of staff available. They just saw a guest without food or drinks but just walked by repeatedly.
Overall JWM Ankara is a solid business hotel and for 15,000 Marriott points per night it was great value. That said, I noted that hotel standards in Ankara are not as high as they are in Istanbul, but in fairness they do not cater to tourists and there is less hotel competition in Ankara so it’s a fact of life that must be accepted. As far as I know, JWM is one of the top luxury hotels in the city even if including hotels from...
Read moreIt was the worst experience ever. I checked in on Friday, May 16th and was given room number 2210. Upon entering the room, I noticed the TV did not display my name on the screen. I asked the gentleman escorting me to the room if it was my assigned room, but he couldn’t give me a clear answer. Exhausted, I went straight to bed.
About 10 minutes later, someone opened the door and entered while I was sleeping without clothes. They immediately ran away. Shortly after, the phone in my room started ringing. I didn’t answer the first time, but it rang again. Frustrated, I picked up and firmly told the caller not to disturb me again.
When I woke up, I went down to the lobby and spoke with Youssef from the front office to request the addition of my BONVOY membership number. He informed me that since I wasn’t the one paying for the stay, he wasn’t sure if he could add the points to my account. I explained that I’ve traveled all over the world and have never had issues receiving points before.
As our conversation continued, Youssef realized I was the guest who had been disturbed during my sleep. He apologized for the inconvenience and assured me he would look into it. When I asked who had called my room earlier, I was shocked to learn it was the front office manager! A note or a message could have been left instead of disturbing me during my rest.
Youssef also mentioned that BONVOY points are usually added after checkout, but I never received them.
Later, in the lobby café, we sat for over an hour, and no one approached our table to ask if we needed anything. We eventually went to place our order ourselves. Even then, many items we requested were unavailable, and we were only given excuses.
I have never experienced such poor service and lack of professionalism. Nonetheless, I wish you all the best.
Finally I received my BONVOY. I want to thank the front office manager who helped. And I found out that my BONVOY membership was not in the system. I was shocked because it was giving to...
Read moreThis was an amazing experience for my wife and I. Our only complaint is that we were there only one night. Although we used our points for a free night because we were there to support our daughter at a basketball tournament, we were still treated as elite members. We are silver elite. I want to give a very big thank you to our hotel receptionist Mr. Yusuf, and to the hotel manager at the time, Mr. Emre, who allowed us to have complimentary breakfast, even though our room did not include it. It was a very generous offer to us and it made our final moments the next morning very enjoyable for us at the breakfast dining hall. The made-to-order juice bar was specially amazing as we had detox drinks to clean our digestive system. The wait staff also took coffee and tea orders and brought it to your table as you ate. The omelet was made-to-order and they then brought it to your table. Very amazing service, and not so crowded at the breakfast hall when we were there||We also cannot forget to talk about the amazing pool and spa that is offered at the hotel. The indoor pool is very big and spacious. The co-ed jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room brought so much comfort and relaxation. They have 2 dry saunas, one with mint in the air and the other normal. All of these are very big and spacious. There is a very good relaxation room, and you will receive free water, tea, and towels. It was a perfect way to end a very long and tiring day.||Again, thank you to Mr. Yusuf and Manager Emre for all your services and to all your staff. We will definitely visit again next time we are in Ankara and hope to receive the same top-notch services, generous amenities, and elite member care. We only wished that the hotel would send us a guest survey by email so we can let the Marriott Headquarters also know how amazing our stay was. Please send it if you can for our night's stay on...
