I had a very bad experience at Golden Age hotel. It's going to be a bit long but detailed review that could help you make your decision in booking this hotel or not!
First of all. I booked a Triple Deluxe room+breakfast for 4 people as it was marked that it fits 4 people for 15 nights (July 2nd to July 17th). When I checked in I was given a double room that fits max 3 people (it has 1 double bed and they put 1 folding bed). I refused to take it then I was walked into another room and was told it's the Triple Deluxe room. it was very tight for a family of 4 with luggages. After one week my uncle came to Istanbul for family reunion. He booked a Triple Deluxe room and to my surprise, his room was bigger than the one I was given by a meter or meter and a half in length and about a meter in width and that makes a big difference!! so basically I paid for a Triple Deluxe room and was given a standard room not a Deluxe room. so bottom line you will be given what is available and not what you paid for.
Secondly. I had money (Turkish lira) stolen from the room while I was out (probably by housekeeping). I reported this to management and customer relations. The money was not a lot but the idea of money go missing from your room tells you that more expensive stuff can walk out as well and you need to lock up your valuables in the safe at all times ( this has never happened to me in any other hotels in Istanbul or any hotel I've stayed at around the world.
Now we get to the services and staff pros and cons
Pros. *The hotel is very close to Taksim square and Istiklal street and public transportation. The breakfast was good and there is variety. The customer relations executive lady (Nida) is very nice and will go above and beyond to help you with any problem you encounter but I believe her hands are tight and she doesn't have a strong pull.
Cons
Stray animals (specifically a cat) walks into the hotel and sits on the couches and go up to the second floor ( the restaurant floor) and sits around where we sit to eat breakfast or at the meeting rooms. One night it was spotted by my kids sitting on the food cart shelf that staff use in the morning to serve( move around) food.
The rooms were not cleaned well. Housekeeping made the beds and re-arranged stuff around and that's it, no floor mopping or bathroom cleaning and we had to report that to the customer relation lady twice then it was cleaned.
*There was no iron in the room when I got it and I had to call multiple times to get one. After couple of days, the iron was gone. I reported this to the reception and customer relations lady and asked for an iron. I called the reception multiple times and walked to the lobby multiple times as well asking for one and I was told that they have 20-25 irons and they will get me one as soon as they can!!!! 4 stars hotel with only 25 irons that gets circulated between the rooms!! Are you kidding me?! finally after 2 or 3 days of me the customer relations lady fighting to get an Iron to my room. I got one!
*When we needed towels we had to call multiple times and sometimes I had to send my son to the lobby to ask the receptionist to send bathing towels to the room. so eventually you will get what you need but you have to insist otherwise you will be forgotten.
*most of the staff were friendly but couple were rude specially one of the females that works at the bar is very rude ( I don't remember her name).
I'm not going to book this hotel again but I hope management address these issues for...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel and found the experience far below expected both during and following my stay. I have attempted to be understanding in my review however I found the conduct I observed at the hotel rude, contemptuous and indeed unacceptable. My reasons for this are listed below:
During my stay my headphones were removed from my room. Despite significant evidence indicating this to be the case I was treated appallingly by staff at the hotel when I attempted to come to a mutually positive solution. Instead I was berated by staff who firstly did not want to listen (shouting over me as I tried to explain the situation), then accused me of lying then shouted to 'go and call the police then' as if threatening me. The staff at the desk also kept discussing me very pointedly with another man (who didn't even appear to work there?) and ignoring me as I tried to speak to them meaning I spent over an hour at the desk. Since then I have found communication with the hotel to be difficult and stressful which is a great shame but no real surprise given how the initial situation was handled. I must however praise Yunus for being willing to try and resolve this situation and for speaking to me with some understanding. However the issue remains unresolved. To be clear it is not the AirPods themselves that I am particularly concerned but rather how the situation was handled and the way I was treated when I attempted to come to a workable solution.
I was surprised the lack of courtesy shown to paying guests. When reporting the aforementioned incident I observed another guest being asked 'How would you like to pay?'. As he (the guest) did not hear this the first time he said 'excuse me?' to which the man at the front desk shouted 'HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO PAY?' which seemed incredibly unnecessary and rude to the extent that the customer decided to take his custom elsewhere.
Rooms have minimal soundproofing and therefore conversations can regularly be heard from other rooms which presents both a privacy and comfort issue.
When I went to visit the pool/seating area I found a member sat having a cigarette. Not quite the relaxing rooftop pool experience sold.
To conclude I would not recommend staying at this hotel. I am able to understand that people are under stress especially when the hotel is in a busier season - indeed we are all human and deal with stress differently. However it is no excuse to treat anyone so poorly - let alone paying customers.
I do not recommend this hotel. If it is a restful and enjoyable stay you are looking for then I suggest that you look beyond the Golden Age...
Read moreI stayed here from 12-15th July 2025 and it is the worst hotel I have been to. During the three days I was there I witnessed multiple people with similar complaints to the unhelpful staff. Scam like cancellation policy that I have never seen anywhere around the world.

I changed my room 3 times for it to be bearable. For the first room, I opened the door and closed it on the spot as the awful sewage like smell was a disaster!! (Room 2201) The second room didn't smell but as I was about to step into the shower a staff member knocked and came in immediately and I realized the room doesn't even have a lock from the inside?!! They were getting it fixed so they gave me a different room. I entered another room with the same unbearable sewage smell. They then gave me a room on the 8th floor which is the pool floor. This time the room didn't smell too bad but the hallway had the horrible smell and the entire hallway had mold on the ground and walls (possible cause of the smell). This room was 2805. See attached photo. Two families changed their hotel on my floor during the 3 days I was staying at this place. ALL showers in ALL rooms I saw were moldy too!
The hotel has 8 floors and maybe 9/10 rooms per floor. There was two elevators that fit max 4 people at a time, for my entire stay and long prior to it according to other guests only 1 was working. We would wait at least 10 minutes to use it. I took the stairs 8 floors up multiple times because of this issue. See photo.
On the last day of my stay my room card was not working. Apparently it was a battery issue of the card reader on the door, which is fine but I specifically said this is the issue 3 times and took the stairs 8 floors up and down to finally get them to understand. I got fed up as no one was answering/ understanding my frustration. One staff member then mentioned "All Iranians are like this" to which I got super angry at the very racist comment. His name is Edri and works at reception. And then he proceeds to threaten me by calling the police?! LOL!! I am an Iranian-American and if such a thing were to happen in any other country this hotel would be shut down in a matter of days.
The breakfast served at the restaurant is decent quality food but again not the cleanest at serving. Cleanliness...
