Let’s start with the good: The location is fantastic — steps away from Istiklal Street, right by the metro to get you to other places in Istanbul, plenty of shops and cafes without having to take the horrible taxis filled with mean and angry men (avoid the taxis in Istanbul, they aren’t very kind/understanding). The room was spacious and modern, the bed was great and shower was pretty good. Our room didn’t have hot water but they fixed that and it was perfect after.
The bad: One of the selling points of this hotel on their website was that it was “soundproof,” and it most definitely is not! You can hear people just talking through the walls, and the noise from the bars downstairs easily gets in through the windows. Which, in and of itself was fine. I know we’re in the middle of the busiest part of town, and I brought ear plugs, but it’s ridiculous they say it’s soundproof and don’t offer ear plugs to the poor souls who believed them.
The staff was mostly very kind, except for a couple of people who were angry that I had brought a friend with me for the reservation. I admittedly made a mistake and didn’t say it was for 2 people because I assumed the occupancy being 2 people just allowed it. I felt really bad about the mistake, but they were kind and just allowed him to register with the hotel and stay with me. That said, their treatment afterwards was kind of jarring. It felt like they were judging us for being two men in a single room, and we felt severely less welcome after that.
It’s a good hotel for the price, but warning to anyone traveling with the same sex it felt like this hotel didn’t want any of that. I was meeting my friend for the first time after knowing him 15 years and after making a mistake with the reservation I felt bad we had to stay in such a place we felt unwelcome, mistake or not.
Silver lining: The hotel cleaning staff constantly replaced our free water bottles and made cute origami with the towels and I really appreciated that, and was very grateful to everyone who...
Read moreExceptionally helpful and friendly staff in a fantastic location! I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and loved every moment of it. It's located in a fantastic spot, one street behind Istiklal street (literally 40 seconds away) just around the corner from Madame Tussauds which is a good marker. The street it is located on is a nice small one away from busy one in front but it still brings a lot of character. There is a corner shop 5metres away, a whole range of small Turkish cafes restaurants, little bars for çay and shisha.
The hotel is only 15 minutes walk away from Galata tower. The area behind the hotel is really great too, full of antiques and thrift stores and great cafe's. So really you couldn't fault the location at all. The hotel itself was lovely as well, it's quite modern in its design and feel but still have a homely feel to it. The gentleman that run the show here are incredibly professional and extremely helpful and friendly. Just little gestures by offering a drink on arrival, helping with the bags or giving advice and tips for the area. The staff really made us feel very welcome every single day. The room was very large and had a lot of windows letting in natural light.
The bed, a double (although standard European bed being two singles together but on a double frame) was extremely comfortable and cosy. The rooms were serviced every morning to a good standard. The bathroom was large and modern, the water pressure and temperature on the shower head was also great (I hate when you get a bad shower). The breakfast is on the ground floor in the cafe area that in the evening also serves as a restaurant. It ran from 7-10am and served a typical Turkish breakfast. Cold meats, cheeses, fresh breads, cereals, salads. There was also a small hot section with one or two types of eggs and some meat.
I would definitely love to stay here again, it was a wonderful stay and I will tell all future family and friends...
Read moreThe hotel is located in the heart of the Taksim district, this has good and bad things. I am going to start with the bad ones that were the reason why the score I give the hotel is not higher. If after touring the city, walking a lot and enjoying how beautiful Istanbul is you want to rest, charge energy and sleep, this is not the Hotel you should choose. it is almost impossible to sleep until 4am, the noise from the street is unbearable, the music, the shouts of the people, the police sirens (the police station is attached to the building)... all this is a cocktail that does not allow you to rest . Now, if what you want is fun and falling asleep at that time, you are in the right place. The good thing about location is that you are close to everything, public transport, shops, restaurants, etc… The attention of the hotel staff is very good, they are kind, helpful and friendly. always wanting to help you with whatever you need. the rooms are spacious and comfortable, they are in the final stage and starting to need some maintenance or renovation, but still everything is good and cleanliness is good. They leave you a big bottle of water every day next to the water heater, coffee and tea. There is a small refrigerator too. It does not have a safe, this caught my attention. The breakfast is correct, a little poor since there are no fruits and the juices are not natural. You have to ask them to replace the things that are missing or run out, and in many cases the answer was, there is no more! Something important to mention is that breakfast is on the 6th floor, and the elevator only goes up to the 5th, so if someone has difficulty climbing the stairs, this will be a problem. To finish, I want to again highlight the friendliness of the staff. Thank...
