Southern Sun Abu Dhabi — Hotel in Abu Dhabi

We stayed at this hotel for a night. The receptionist gave us a free upgrade. When we went to the floor where they allowed us the room there was a jar of honey kept outside which seemed as if the room was already occupied. An hour after we checked in, the housekeeping staff knocked on our door. Before we went to open the door, he himself opened the door and tried to walk in when my husband stepped out the bedroom and questioned him. Cut to the next day during checkout, they didn’t check the room when we said we wanted to checkout. After 9 hours of us checking out, their hotel staff calls and blatantly accused us of stealing the hairdryer and tissue holder. In the first place, there was no hairdryer and no tissue holder was kept in the room when we checked in. When I tried explaining, he said I prefer talking to the husband and not the wife when I told him my husband was with me that night. He said no. Lol it was a family trip and this guy started out with cooking a story about my husband whom he hasn’t seen in his lifetime. Then when my husband called and politely told the guy over the phone we never saw it in the room. He said we always keep things and you have taken it with you during checkout and now you just bear the damage expense. He repeatedly kept accusing of taking the hairdryer and tissue holder and when we volunteered to go to the hotel and ask his housekeeping to check our bags he said we can’t check but you check and let us know maybe your family took the hairdryer “by mistake” after us assertively saying that we didn’t take it. He further started accusing us of causing blood stains. My husband and I are teetotallers so we weren’t sure what the blood stain we mentioned. When we said that he started accusing us of much more. And when we said it’s the hotel and housekeeping’s responsibility to check the room during checkout, his answer was during holiday time we expect guests to do it and we don’t. Initially when we walked in to the hotel and upon our stay for the night and how comfortable our child was and we were as a family, I wanted to give them a 5 but sadly their staff ruined our experience and we were left with a bitter taste. The hotel should teach their staff basic communication skills and how to communicate with their guests. They should also train their housekeeping to wait until someone answers the door instead of walking in to a occupied room at the middle of the night. Worst experience ever with a 4 star hotel. I would stay away from this hotel and urge people who want to have a good experience overall to avoid because who knows what kind of call they would give and ruin...

Location & Convenience: The hotel's location is simply unbeatable. Nestled in the city center with a stunning sea view, it offers the perfect blend of urban convenience and serene beauty. Free parking, valet services, and easy access to taxis and buses right outside make getting around a breeze. Shops, restaurants, and other amenities are just a short stroll away, all within a two-minute walk.

Facilities & Design: Southern Sun boasts a unique architectural design and is equipped with multiple elevators, ensuring quick access to rooms. The budget-friendly rates, especially compared to other hotels in the same category, make it an exceptional value. The rooms are beautifully furnished, offering comfort and breathtaking views.

Amenities: The amenities at Southern Sun are top-notch. The pool is large and inviting, and the gym is well-equipped for a comprehensive workout. Although I haven't tried the sauna, it’s an available option for guests. The hotel features five restaurants and coffee shops, each offering delicious food at reasonable prices, often with guest discounts. The laundry service is efficient and affordably priced, and room supplies, including water and coffee, are replenished without limit.

Service: What truly makes Southern Sun stand out is its staff. Everyone here goes above and beyond to ensure a perfect stay. I want to express my gratitude to Ahmed Ayashi, the Senior Sales Manager, whose support has been exceptional. When I mentioned my concern about potential hotel fatigue after six months, he promptly upgraded my room. Additionally, when I expressed a wish for a microwave, one was provided the same day. Mohamed Maksoud has also been a great support, always ready to assist with any inquiry.

At the reception, Ahmed, Kal, Alice, Ashraf Siranks, and Abd Alaziz are always friendly, helpful, and available 24/7. Emmanuel from housekeeping is incredibly fast and detail-oriented, ensuring my room is always spotless.
