Lovely steak but not worth the money. Menu online is not accurate. Don't get me wrong - their steak is great & cooked to perfection. Their Menu online says chips are included - this is not the case. The price you pay is for steak alone and whilst it's a good steak, it's over priced. £28 for a sirloin & £34 for a porterhouse with absolutely zero on the side is hefty!
Thinking chips came with the steak we ordered onion rings, spinach with gorgonzola and garlic mushrooms. These sides were small! They are around £5 a piece. The spinach side was a tiny handful of raw spinach leaves with a couple of cubes of gorgonzola. The mushrooms were nice - but there must have been 5 mushrooms finely sliced. Onion rings also good, but you get 5 of them. Sauces were £2.50 a pop and you get a thimble full - my peppercorn sauce was also cold.
When no chips served with the meal we queried this to be advised nothing is included with the steak, if we wanted two portions of chips we'd need to pay for them. Conscious of how much the bill was racking up we asked for one portion. We explained that their menu online says chips are included with all steaks. When brining the portion of chips the waiter advised he'd checked and their website menu does state chips are included, so he would remove the cost for the one portion of chips they brought from the bill - still feel a second portion of chips should have been provided in with the cost of the steak.
The waiter was attentive. The steak was lovely. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere but with a beer and glass of wine spent just shy of £100 and left still a bit hungry. Food is nice but way...
Read moreWell...my grand mother was Argentinian and I must have been a lion in a previous life. I love meat! Still... It is my taste and we all have our own taste, try it and judge it by yours. I've tried some of the best meat restaurants in the cities I've visited but Miami, Hamburg and Lisbon are the places where I repeat my visits, I could name all the restaurants I've visited and have a good memory about the enjoyment of great meat. I looked at 3 different lists regarding the best meat restaurants of Bath and The Herd was in all 3. My taste must be very different from the people that contributed to these rankings. My wife had the fillet and I had the porterhouse. She he's more forgiving than I am so I took her "good but I've had better" as a negative comment. Let me put my comment this way, if you expect a porterhouse with decent thickness, order a t-bone, the one I've seen was taller A "slim" porterhouse does not allow it to be cooked rare, you will get a medium one. Slim porterhouses should not exist, be called something else or they should show the clients the cuts before... I would have chosen something else. Again just my taste. No photos but I could post some of the best porterhouse and other cuts I've had, they would certainly look better letting taste to the ones...
Read moreAbsolutely outstanding. the building has a very very odd main entrance which is a bit like a labyrinth/maze spiralling down staircases to reveal a very small and intimate bistro style room, the space is very well used to accommodate a reasonable amount of diners and there is a very nice natural wooden themed lower entrance/outside area. The restaurant branding stands out and looks very cool, first impression were pretty good. The menu was slightly confusing as to what dishes came with sides etc. I ordered the sirloin steak, it was a wee bit on the expensive side, however it arrived reasonably quickly to our table and then the real shock came when I cut into the steak to find the most succulent looking piece of meat I had ever been served, the first bite was an experience and a memory I wont forget in a hurry, cooked to perfection, not too bloody but in no way dry, juicy and tender. This has to be THE best steak I have ever in my 45 years on this planet experienced. I can't say enough good things about this place. In summary, not the cheapest but by goodness it's way more...
