Just felt like 'another customer'. Service generally poor until the end and the bill came out with a 10% service charge.
We sat. Menus dumped down. No offer of anything, no small talk or specials. Came back and ordered some wine and water. Wine was poured so fast into the glasses it splashed out. Was the place busy? Not really. But the manager seemed to think he's some superstar server and has the attitude to match.
Starters were okay. Different take on a Caprese salad but okay and bruschetta average.
Mains we both has the seafood linguine. Calamari tough and chewy. Again, it was alright. Not the worst, not the best.
Desset. The Tiramisu was amazing. And for £9 I should hope so. Probably best I've had for a ling time.
Servers need to know how to serve. You don't stack plates in front of customers. With the way she gripped the cutlery and lifted the plates stacked from in front of me, she almost took my eye out with a steak knife. Train your servers how to wrist stack or, tell them to do two journeys. You're not a Weatherspoons...and you're charging 10% for this below entry level of service. Of course 'service is optional'. I'm aware but sometimes it's just not worth the agro and explaining how terrible the service was. Because it's taken personally. I know this. I've managed restaurants and worked in this industry for over 20 years.
This isn't the cheapest place in Bath for what they're offering so to be treated like 'more money in the till' really gets my back up. For 8 years in Bath, I've always had to go to places that allow dogs, so the idea was to try somewhere we wouldn't usually be able to visit, especially as it's the last place we past walking back to our accomadation.
And if you're looking for authentic Italian, honestly, I'd be very surprised if this was owned by Italians...If you're a tourist visiting Bath, there are lots of other great restaurants with frendly approachable skilled staff.
3 Courses, Wine (£35) and Water inc 10% Service. £125. I will not be back. Glad I've finally tried this place but a poor excuse for an...
Read moreWe came here for our anniversary and overall had an excellent experience. We had the bread & olives starter, which worked perfectly with our caprese salad, then a fillet steak which was cooked perfectly to my liking, and my husband had the Vesuvian pizza which he said was great too. I found the service very attentive and proactive which was great, also, when Jurgen heard that it was our anniversary we were brought limoncello and then even a tiramisu signed “happy anniversary”, he was an excellent waiter, very friendly and everything you’d want at a high end restaurant. He was also very good at acknowledging my allergies and letting me know that a dish I ordered had a hidden allergen which was highly appreciated as I’d be very ill if I had it.
Our experience was most definitely 5-star and we’re so pleased we chose Antica for our anniversary dinner.
I do have to point out that there is a dish on the menu which is labelled “vegetarian” and it is not vegetarian, it has anchovy oil or something to do with anchovies; even if it is a small amount the dish cannot be labeled “Vegetarian” as it is completely misleading and also quite dangerous if there is a waiter who is maybe new and doesn’t know, this is also probably illegal to state something is vegetarian when it actually isn’t, and I saw in previous reviews that mislabeling has been brought up for some other dishes. We brought this up with the Antica team and were told that it will be removed.
As I live in Bath, I will make sure to check that this has actually been removed as it’s a good idea to get the menu edited ASAP to keep people safe and avoid a very expensive lawsuit for Antica if anything were to happen due to this mislabeling.
All in all amazing experience, and even with this menu thing, if 6 stars was an option I’d probably give 6 stars!...
Read moreWe recently visited Antica on Father's Day, hoping for a nice family celebration. Unfortunately, the service from our waiter, Jay (a tall gentleman), significantly detracted from our experience.
Jay displayed a lack of attentiveness towards my family member, who is hard of hearing. His responses to their inquiries were dismissive and unhelpful. When delivering our starters, he simply deposited them on the table without a word, making no attempt to distribute them individually or inquire about preferences. Furthermore, his fingers made unnecessary contact with the entire surface of the plates, raising hygiene concerns.
In stark contrast, the waitress in the black uniform was a shining example of excellent service. She was attentive, ensured empty drinks were promptly removed, and carefully delivered each plate to the intended person. Her friendly demeanour made a positive impact on our experience.
Considering the significance of Father's Day, Jay's inattentive and unhygienic service was particularly disappointing. This is a stark contrast to our previous positive experience at this restaurant with colleagues and family last year.
Given this recent encounter, I hesitate to recommend this place to others.
Extremely distasteful discriminatory service from Jay on fathers day, I will mention this to all my acquaintances around the area to not visit this establishment - previously loved this place when I visited with my work colleagues and sister last year.
The restaurant had the audacity to slap on a 11% service charge from this terrible service. Wasn't even worth my time to argue to remove it so just paid...
