First of all, the hotel is well located, the staff were all lovely and the pub offers a wide range of drinks. There is a kettle in the room, with tea and coffee and biscuits. (no water or croissants as suggested by other reviews). However, there were a number of issues 1) The noise! We stayed over Friday and Saturday nights and the noise from outside was constant until the early hours. I barely slept. On Friday night there was a huge argument outside, bottles were thrown and there was mention of a knife. Police turned up with sirens on shortly after...not the hotels fault but if you want any sleep, forget it. 2)personal preference but the beds were really uncomfortable. Quite thin spring mattress, and you could feel the springs. 3) The curtains didn't quite cover the windows, leaving a gap either end. Also contributed to the lack of sleep. If you like a dark room, take a sleep mask 4) Cleanliness. Whilst the room was OK, the shower and bathroom left a lot to be desired. Thick dust on the shower gel dispenser, on the shower frame, in every corner of the floor and behind the door. The tiles had marks and soap scum on them, which were easily removed with a wipe. Grout was turning black. Suggests only very basic/quick cleaning which is concerning given a COVID measure is deep/thorough cleaning. The shower wasn't very powerful and went from hot to cold. ||As I said, if you're just there to party the lack of sleep probably won't be an issue and the hotel is very close to the train station and various bars. However, I'm now exhausted and have barely...

Stayed here for one night, for the price, cannot go wrong!

Room; The room is quite small, well suited for a single traveller and is within walking distance to the city. Bed was comfy. After the pub closed, it was super quiet so let you sleep easy. For me, perfect when it came to temperature too, though I like the fact a heater is in the room incase not to your liking.

Bathroom; The shower is huge! Normally, in hotels, I'm smashing my elbows off of everything, but this one was great, decent temperature. Toilet when sitting was a bit narrow on account of the big shower but that's not a bad thing in my book.

Food; As the hotel is above the pub, it makes travelling for food nice and easy as it's only downstairs. Dinner was decent, it was a reasonable price and was properly done by the taste of it (Hunters chicken didn't seem microwaved at least like most hotels do)

However, the food is where I put the service to 4*, for one reason, breakfast. To be clear, I did not try the breakfast even though I wanted to because it wasn't served until 11am, way too late in my opinion. The barman was nice enough to tell me where to go the day before, but definitely was an...

They have absolutely no idea of what is customer service, I waited for 30 minutes for the Sunday carvery, when there was no one queuing, I don't know what I was waiting for, no clear reason given. I also hate the fact that I have to download a specific app for just this pub. I know the covid restrictions are difficult to follow, but they gave me zero instructions when I entered, they should have told me which app I need to download, drinks need to be ordered from the app, wait to be seated, yet order the carvery from the waiting staff. This place is just an absolute chaos, don't come here if time is precious to you. You can see the picture, they mentioned there is a "new menu", yet you cannot see any qr code to download it, it's nowhere to be seen, this simply is not good enough.

Excellent spot to stay, eat and drink in Exeter. It is very convenient as there is a coop on the corner, and it's only a 7 minute walk down to st Davids train station and a few minutes into the city centre. The staff are amazing. Celine and Chris were lovely and helped make for a couple of fun evenings at the bar. Thanks guys x The breakfast is only £5.50 so an absolute bargain in an otherwise expensive city. I didn't like beans on my plate, and Chris very kindly remembered and served them in a separate dish the next morning 😀 We had a twin room with shower. It had tea/coffee facilities (with a few nice biscuits) and a tv. The room was basic but the staff and location made it five stars 🌟

Could not believe the security light that was on when we turned the main lights off!! Photo is attached. It was a neon green that we had no control over and it was too late to contact any staff about it. Also incredibly noisy in the rooms when other people come/go/walk on the stairs.
