My friend and I stayed in the separate apartment of the bazpacker hostel. Facilities were good but we were disappointed with the treatment we received by staff after being locked out of our apartment. We were left with no choice but to sleep on the floor in the hostel toilets (outside temperature was around -2) There wasn’t any emergency contact number at the hostel reception desk. It wasn’t until another guest came down for breakfast that they told us where to find the staff members room. We knocked on the door around 8.30am after sleeping rough all night and were greeted by a rude member of staff that was reluctant to help as she deemed it too early. After explaining to her we had been waiting all night, we were let back in our room. A few hours later a member of staff who didn’t introduce himself, but we assumed he was management let himself into our apartment. He attempted to tell us off for using towels from the linen cupboard as blankets in the freezing conditions. When we asked what should of we done in that situation, his reply was we shouldn’t of locked ourselves out and he was angry that we managed to get into the main hostel to escape the cold. I highly recommend that an out of hours emergency contact number to be provided with every booking so that others aren’t in a similar situation and staff be more polite and understanding towards out of hours emergencies.
In response to your reply
Firstly thanks for the unprofessional and factually incorrect response. I would be interested how you would know anything of our state seeing as you and your staff were completely uncontactable during this time. Your definition of misbehaviour seems to be escaping the freezing cold and not waking your staff up until a reasonable hour?!
It is terrible that you as a business value having to wash some towells (that we used as blankets as it was freezing!!) Over the safety of your guests and seemingly you would have rather us slept outside. Reading other reviews it is apparent that this is not the first time someone has had to sleep rough because of your inconsiderate management being uncontactable after hours.
Utterly appalled at your response. Very arrogant and highly...
Read moreThe negative. This hostel along with other accommodation in the area appears to inflate prices depending on what local events are occurring. On this occasion I paid 250 pounds for 3 nights accommodation. Other guests were horrified at the cost in relation to what you got. The good. Beds were comfortable. Black out blinds very welcome. Room a nice Temperature.Common area and kitchen extremely nice. Especially the Kitchen. Needs improvement. Shared shower facilities. Therefore you need to get changed in the shower cubicle . To do that you need to put your towel down on the wet cubicle floor . You get issued with one towel on arrival. Having used the shower in the morning and then having returned from the loch Ness Marathon I was hoping for a fresh towel. The response from the worker on asking . Was she appeared flustered and began shouting. Had I not already checked out. No was my reply I check out the following day. The response was that I have to pay another 5 pounds. I politely explained that having paid 250 pounds for three nights I felt it unfair. In respect of the showers adjacent to room 1 and 2. Out of three showers . One barely worked. The 2nd one had a broken on off twist handle. And the 3rd was fine. Overall Cleanliness Kitchen beds good . Showers poor . With exception off one staff member polite and professional. Depending on when you travel could be exceptional value to extremely poor value as mine was on this occasion. It was only the accommodation in the locality where prices were substantially increased .Bars and restaurants remained the same. What does this mean.Only the well healed get to attend events...
Read moreThis is definitely one of the better hostels I’ve stayed at! Rooms and facilities were all very clean and well organized, staff was generally helpful, and beds were comfortable. The location is pretty much impossible to beat: it’s right next to the castle and about two minute’s walk from the center of town, but is quiet (there is a pub that’s open relatively late next door, but I never noticed the noise in the rooms).
I stayed in a 6 bed mixed dorm, where the beds are “pods” that were pretty sturdily built. They have one open wall with a heavy curtain that does a good job blocking light. They each have a small shelf and charging port, an electronic safe (free), and a larger cubby for big bags. I am just over 1.9 meters and was pretty much exactly the length of the beds, so they aren’t extra roomy or anything, but I was plenty comfy for a few nights.
There is a nice kitchen (and refrigerator for you to use) and sitting area, plus a very nice back garden, too.
My biggest complaint is truly trivial: there’s nowhere to set your things in the showers (there two hooks to hang things between the door and the curtain, but the shower floor drains through to that area, so don’t set anything on...
