Very pleasant host, who went out of her way for her guests. I heard her say more than once that she loved running her guest house which isn't always the case so hats off to her! The house is quite quirky. Lots of different levels and old features, some of which were charming, some others did feel a bit old though and in need of updating. We had a room which involved some complex steps! It came off the main stairs, but before the top! It had a couple of side steps up to the door and then a few more steps down from the door on the other side. A bit treacherous for anyone elderly or with a drink in them but we managed fine! There was a cute shower room also off the stairs in the middle which you stepped down into from a small looking door. Very Alice in Wonderland! ||||Breakfast was very nice - cooked options slightly limited compared with other places we stayed but generous portions, well cooked and lots of continental options. ||||Only a couple of things I would bear in mind: ||1. The house is on a one way street and we didn't see the sign for it until we had just passed it so had to go round the block again. ||2. Its not really suitable for anyone with mobility issues - a steep but short driveway up to the front door - and quite a lot of stairs up to the front door and again to the bedrooms. Not sure if there was a ground floor room but didn't appear to be.||3. On arrival, before our warm welcome from the host, we were met by a barking dog in the hallway which seemed to be the standard greeting from our observations. He was around for all of our stay, including in the breakfast room. My partner is allergic to dogs and we were also a little concerned about the hygiene of this in a room serving food but others seemed to love him so not a complaint, just a heads up for other guests in case that's not your thing! ||||Overall a pleasant stay - comfy bed, everything clean, excellent hosts and nice breakfast. Would recommend but bear in...
Read moreStayed here for just one night, which was enough. Our room had a double bed squeezed in behind the door & up against the wall. The bed was rather low & fairly hard. There were 2 chairs in the room, which was a help, but they were very uncomfortable if you sat in them for any length of time. The shared bathroom across the corridor was very old fashioned, the bath being part sunken into the floor and badly stained and the shower was vintage! The windows were, again, vintage with badly fitting single glazing which did absolutely nothing towards keeping out the traffic noise from the busy road outside. The TV, though a decent size, could only receive BBC & some of the more obscure channels, no ITV or channels 4 & 5. The WiFi was, at best, tenuous. The basic cooked breakfast was swimming with grease & the toast was of the thinnest & cheapest bread you can imagine.we were not offered any fresh toast or tea, it was just a case of you got what you were given & no more. The parking facilities are poor. This guest house needs to enter the 21st century as soon as possible. Would we visit again - that is a...
Read moreOn arrival, my partner and I received a warm welcome from the host, who showed us to our room .||||Said room was spacious, with two small single beds, which were well dressed and rather comfortable. Owing to the space constraints, the toilet/shower room was small, but reasonably so. Soap, shampoo, and conditioner dispensers were provided, which I thought was a nice touch.||||There was central heating, which was welcome. ||||The architecture of the house was beautiful to my eye, and reminded me of Tudor architecture, if I'm not mistaken. Inspirational as regards the design of any house I'll build in the future. ||||The breakfast provided was nice, well-cooked, and brought swiftly upon request.||||Overall, I would very much recommend this establishment to anyone wishing to...
